pontyslapper
If you're a bit handy why not have a go yourself? Then its only the cost of the tensioner/belt. The car would have to be put into the service position to give you a bit of room - that really needs a garage or decent flatish drive. 2 hours Changing the tensioner/belt - depending on what you find 30-60 mins off the top of my head. Main dealers would be looking for I would guess 2-3 hours labour - £220-330 minimum just on labour alone. But then I might be wrong - especially if the dealer has 'a deal on'! Mook
Parts aside, it takes 15-20 minutes to change it the actual tensioner and belt - it's a bit of a PITA to get off with the engine in situ, esp in the B5.5 Passat. You'll pay a minimum of 30 minutes labour though.
gypsyboy
thanks for your replies. do you not have to take off the front bumper?
Mook
No you don't. We're talking a alternator/power steering pump belt and tensioner here.
