Retrofit audio

Recommended Posts

Hey,

My mate is trading his Audi A4 Cabriolet into the stealers in a couple of weeks and has offered to part exchange his factory installed satnav, rns-e, for my Symphony2 radio. Im absolutely stunned he offered and I certainly want to take up the offer in exchange for a few beers!

Anyway, my question is it that he has a 2008 cabriolet and mine is a 2006 cabriolet. Will my symphony radio be compatible with his wiring etc?

Im not sure if his car will have ISO connections already, which I understand the symphony needs for connection, or a quadlock(? is that what it is called?). As my car has ISO connection I presume my radio will need to be converted to quadlock?

The year of the car makes no difference, but the RNS-E uses a Quadlock connector but the Symphony II uses 4 mini-ISOs so you won't be able to fit his RNS-E into your car without both a wiring adapterand an antenna adapter (the RNS-E uses a dual Fakra for the ntenna connections but the Symphony II uses one Fakra and one car radio connector). You can get both adapters from companies like Kufatec.

To fit your Symphony II into his car you need an opposite wiring adapter and opposite antenna adapter - not sure where you can get them, but it's worth asking Kufatec.

You'll also have to use VAG-COM to recode your car, his car, the RNS-E and the Symphony II - if you want the RNS-E to work properly and both cars not to log fault codes.
