Oatz
I’m literally doing a straight swap, my car for someone elses. The other persons car has a personalised plate on it and I don’t really want to wait for 2/4 weeks for him to receive his V5 after transferring the plate before being able to transfer ownership of the car to me. Is there anyway around this? Apart from transferring ownership to me now, waiting for the new V5 to arrive at my address, then I put the private plate on retention and send to him? Cheers! Mook
He can take the completed V5 with your details on it as the new owner to your local DVLA office and complete a cherished transfer form, get the plate transferred off. When all the forms come back, he'll get a retention cert and you'll get the V5. Unless he wants to put the plate on your car, in which case he just takes your car's V5 along at the same time. Mook
Oh, and don't forget you'll need to sign your V5 to confirm the change of ownership if he's putting the plate on your car
