Swissvax Best of Show

Finally got round to giving the Golf a spruce up on Monday.

Not the best weather and ended up doing most of the work in the garage with little space.

Below was the order of events. I decided not to clay as the car has only done 1160 miles since the last detail in May last year and it has been garaged all the time. There were hardly any traces of swirls too aside from the odd mark noticeable on the tailgate where Mrs TT had used her hands a couple of times to close, instead of using the internal handle. They were hardly noticeable but being fussy I decided to sort them.

  • Wash - Duragloss 902 & Poorboys APC to help strip existing wax
  • Wheels cleaned with diluted APC
  • n/s wing and tailgate machine polished with Menz 106FA using white Sonus spot pad
  • Applied Poorboys Black Hole via DA polisher using red Sonus finishing pad
  • Applied 3 layers of Swissvax 'Best of Show' wax (2 layers yesterday and one final layer today)
  • Wheels polsished with Autoglym SRP and sealed with 2 layers of AG EGP
  • Tyres dressed with Swissvax Pneu

I was mighty impressed with Swissvax BOS. It was so easy to apply and remove - even if left for 45 minutes upwards. There were no traces of hollogramming - Smells nice too.

The finish left by BOS is slightly nicer than Dodo Super Natural in my unbiased opinion. I think BOS leaves a wetter glossier look where as the Dodo SN is a little sharper / more reflective in comparison. It will be interesting to see what BOS looks in say 3 months time as my car doesn't go out much, but I wonder if the oils in BOS will dry out losing the very wet glossy look. Even if this were to happen, the good thing is that I can get a fresh layer of BOS on and off within an hour. This is probably the easiest wax I have ever used - or at least just as easy as Clearkote 'nuba wax

I should imagine that Dodo SN may look nicer on a silver / white car where as BOS is better on blacks / reds and dark blues etc. Dunno - both nice waxes :)

Always struggle take a decent photo of red cars and these probably don't really do it justice. Not had a chance to take any proper full view pics just yet. I will add some when I get an opportunity to take some.

We have been waiting since christmas for this and only 5 photos.....! Only kidding, it looks great! Supernatural was really a sealant look with a bit of nuba. I think i can tell the difference in the photos as the car looks less "glassy".

If its anything like the Zymol waxes i have and have used the oils wont dry out, they tend to put in stellar performance until they gone.

We demand more photos outside when the weather and time co-operate! What will you use to maintain the finish?

What product do you use on the black grill?

Your tyre dressing looks nice but it is quite expensive, do you find the Swissvax lasts very long?

How did you decide on Best of Show in the end? Swissvax do loads of different waxes at all sorts of prices...?

BOS is not cheap either, so is it worth the price in your opinion?

I decided to go for BOS having read quite a lot of positive reviews.

Is is worth the price? Well, probably not, but then again I don't think any waxes which cost more than say £35 are really! The BOS was bought as a present.

That said, it is the nicest wax i've used, weighing up ease of use and more importantly looks so on that basis if you're in the market for a posh wax then I would recommend.

LOL - must try harder with the piccies! I'm always short of time at the end of a cleaning session

I will maintain the finish with just a light spray of Clearkote Quikshine after eash wash. I have got some Pinnacle Crystal Mist but i'm unsure if that will alter the looks of the wax so reluctant to use until maybe say 3-4 mnths ahead.

I haven't dresses the black grill with anything. I usually just give it a good spraying with QD and buff up which seems to do the trick. The usual plastic treatment products are all a but messy for that area although Autoglym Bumper Shine (aerosol type of silicone I guess) works well.

Swissvax Pneu is a bit steep at £15 a bottle but I do like the looks it provides. It's not at durable as the likes of the purple Megs stuff but seems comparable with most of the others.

To be honest, I don't mind if a tyre dressing comes off in the first rainy drive anyway as most of them start to look a bit tired after a few days.

I like Pneu as it's easy and quick to apply too so can be easily applied after a weekly wash.
