SINGH
If its a D2 I would ask about if the gearbox has been replaced/reconditioned in the past.
liebherr266
D3 on an '03, 3.7??
SINGH
I'd make sure the cam belt had been done and then if possible look at a 4.2 instead. Looking at the specs the 3.7 has 55 less BHP, yet has the exact same MPG!
PsYcHe
D3.. Check that EVERYTHING works.. and I do mean EVERYTHING!!! If something electronic isn't working it can be a pretty penny to sort out. Timing belt should be done now (look at 600 quid). Check for service history, etc.
A8_Tony
That's an early D3, so as Psyche says ensure everything works. Don't be afraid to try things again and again. Perhaps even take it for a test drive first thing in the day, so the owner hasn't had a chance to warm her up. It's petrol, so the difference in MPG would have been negligible anyway compared to a 4.2. Find a 4.2 if you can, or the 4.0 diesel Also bear in mind that there were 3 versions of the D3, the early ones do perhaps look a little dated, so bear that in mind too, as you may find that you're wanting the "full frontal" look of the 2nd generation, and current D3's. This will incur additional costs obviously. As already identified, check for full service history, and if you want some confidence, ask others, on here probably best, of their experiences of the places where it has been serviced. This might be excessive, but I'm sure it'll stop you buying a "duffer". Don't be afraid to shop at a distance. There are many owners on here, who would be more than willing to offer their services to go and have a look for you Other advice? Once you do make a purchase, take it to Ben at AVP and pay for him to give it the once over. Join the club first, and you'll save yourself 15% on that, as well as give yourself some serious peace of mind as to the mechanical state of the car you buy
