i bought this car at the beging of the year drove like new only 70k on the clock been fully serviced, took it on a blast to blackpool spot on, got back home and the car juderd coft and spluterd topt it up with some more fuel & booked it in for service & mot flew straight threw bloke at garage said car was immaculate for year! great mmmmmmmm

last week car started to miss fire terribly parked it up untill local mechanic could get me in, took it down he changed the coil pack and leads as thats what he thought it would be low & behold it still miss fired he then sent it away for futher checks who came back with ignition module! changed that, miss fire gone but car is cutting out in mid flow drivin & tick over is erratic when changing gear they shoot up tick over has now droped to the 600mark never ever did anything like this happen b4 all these parts were changed! a total nite mare, took it back down to the gargage plugged it in no errors even tho they took it out and the car cut on them, end of thats it we got palmed off they couldn't find anything wrong, took it to girlfriends dad who an auto electrician who still couldn't find any faults and has been through and tested all differnet bits and bobs, he did reset something to do with fuel as he said it smelt strongly which would co-inside with it gobbling the stuff!! well drove away still a lumpy tick over 30miles of so later CUT OUT while driving a total nitemare when the car was absolutley fantastic b4, its a 2000 model by the way.

i would be grateful of any help to try solve what could be causing it to cut out since these parts have been changed could something have been knocked anything please help me!!!

thanks

Hi Trev,

Welcome to TSN. Is this the 20v V5? Lovely sounding engine! Also, use proper fuel - not Asda, Morrison crap - put in Shell and BP or even Sainsbury's.

What happens when you use the car's rev range?

Try changing the MAF. Make sure it's a proper Bosch job. Accept no substitutes.

If the MAF is sending the wrong info, then the ECU doesn't know what is what and will try to compensate in various ways.

Give that a go.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply m8 if its the maf wouldn't it come up on computer as a fault? its been to an auto electrician who's had it on a tel ya since i had these parts changed the car drive's like a bag of crap and b4 the engine was silent & it drove absolutley spot on!

i think its goin to be wise to take it to a vw specialist round my area!!

Ok...I`ll state the obvious...but have you tried cleaning/checking the park plugs....or even replacing them.....I`v owned a fair few cars/motorbikes...even boats/Jet-ski`s and if the engine starts to play up it can sometimes require only the simplest of fixes.....obviously this is a stab in the dark but from my experience I`v seen the roughest of engines transformed by a new set of plugs......but if all else fails a visit to the local specialist may very well be the best way forward.
