Is it just my imagination, or since DRLs have become more popular on the roads - there are a lot more old Escorts/Saxo's/Etc Etc driving round in the middle of the day with their foglights on?

Trying to fool everyone that a 1989 Ford Sierra has DRLs.

Its even worse than the pretend Halford-style DRLs.

My old Saxo (forgive me I was 18 and a VTR was quite quick at the time) would allow you to run fogs without headlights for the proper boy racer look. They certainly knew their target market.

I may have used the fogs lights on their own on occasion, for test purposes you understand

Fog lights should be banned. End of +++

Nope, they should be allowed. But when you have them turned on the car should be limited to 20mph. The highway code says something like use them in 200m vis. Which is feck all, given that planes land themselves in this sort of vis you wonder why people still seem able to do 70mph in it not knowing whats infront of them.

....I totally agree - That's why mine have been removed (and propa LED DRL's fitted in their place)

You could call them Retro-fit spoiler mounted Giraffe knickers if you like, but everyone in the world will wonder why you've got your fog lights.

....Simply not true that "everyone in the world...etc".

Besides which I don't care two figs what other people think - They function to aid being seen in the interests of my improved road safety.

Come off it - a very high percentage of people will wonder why you have your fogs on :P

....True, but unfortunately a very high percentage of drivers are ignorant. But let them wonder.. I'm more concerned in my own road safety and the only reason DRL's are becoming law is for that reason.

They're not proper DRLs. They're chav accessories that were never originally intended to be fitted to the Mk5 Golf.

But then I can't really think of any more chav accessories you could fit to your car, now you've got bonnet catches...

I don't mind the nice, straightforward factory DRL's you get on the 997.2 and most new Mercs. It's the fecking stupid wavy fairylight ones on Audis I can't stand (A6 aside). The new A8's are the most ridiculous yet.

And I think they should react to a certain level of ambient light so w*nkers don't drive around with them on in blazing fecking sunshine.

I think you've missed the point of the name - "daytime running lights" :roflmao:

I refer you, however, to the Sniff Petrol pic earlier in th thread +++
