Ari
I've just got a scanner and I've started scanning some of my old photos. So here's a challenge, who's got a photo of a more embarrassing car from their past than this? My beloved Ford Capri 2.0S complete with black headlight protectors, Signal Amber paintwork, fishnet Recaros and slot mag 13 inch alloys! I loved that car, it was fantastic! Not sure I'd feel quite so cool in it today though... Oh and I'll warn you, this is mild, it gets worse...!

spudgun
A great many people would say my first two hot hatches were embarrasing, but I loved 'em, they were great cars except for the rusting seam welds. In 90-91 I had an 89 MG Maestro 2.0i which I then traded in for a 90 MG Maestro turbo. The turbo was rapid! Both had 10k on em when I bought em and both covered 30k miles fault free, except for having to get the welds repsrayed every year Both were white. Remember when white cars were popular? TonyD
I don't have a picture of it but I could proably out do most of you lot! About 5 years ago I bought and owned (for a period of about a month!) an old 'R' reg orangey brown Austin Allegro 1300. The car cost me just £40.00 including a months tax and MOT left on it! So why would I buy this car you ask? Well, it was my mum's friends car and she had owned it for donkey's years and was about to scrap it as she had bought a new car. It had a unique registration on it so I transfered it onto retention and then sold it on to make some money on it.... Netted me £440.00 profit in the end and was worth it! The car..... oh yeah, I scrapped it as soon as the replacement reg came through..... it was a shed!

Blaa
I've never owned a car I was embarrased over.. I started out with a 1981 VW Golf (Rabbit) 1.6 diesel, american spec. Had if for about a year.. Then moved on to a 1986 VW Golf Syncro 90hp 1.8, had that one for a year... Then 1994 VW Golf TDK, another diesel 75hp 1.9. Guess what had thatone for a year... Then 1998 VW Golf TDI, Golf mkIV mine for about 8 days... And now for over two years a 2000 Audi A3 TDI with S3 Recaros... I'll never leave this brand, not for now at least.. Chris_B
Not quite the same thing as I didn't own it, but my first ever "company car" was a E-reg Ford Escort 1.4LX in white. At some point in it's life, some evil person had put a Weber twin chamber carb on the poor thing and so it had really crappy fuel economy and still pretty lame performance, just a bit better than the average 1.4LX had, and the poor thing had obviously been thrashed every mile of it's life with the Weber twin. The problem was, this sort of engine abuse didn't do it any good, and it used to burn nearly as much oil as petrol. It also had a habit of leaking coolant into the oil and then the oil would go lumpy and clots would block the oil risers to the top of the engine and it would starve itself of oil for some random length of time until the oil pressure sensor finally realised that the oil pump was straining away to no avail, then the red oil light would come on and you knew you had to switch it off right there or seize it on the spot. The boss used to send it to a shoddy backstreet garage for "repair", where they'd drain the lumpy dirty oil and change the clogged up filter and flush the oil lines with petrol (badly). As a result it used to just run for another 3 or 4 months before it blocked up again. Poor thing. In winter it had to live in the garage with a blanket under the bonnet to ensure the engine had a fighting chance the next morning. Strangely enough I saw it a couple of years ago in Grimsby, so it's obviously still clinging on desperately to life, somehow.
fatcat
I once owned a 1969 capri a GT XLR, a crappy black rusty job, that had to have the bonnet bolted down onto the front pillars to stop it flying off. In fact it did come off, the wind caught under the bonnet and wrapped it over the screen ripping it off the hinges and flying off over the screen and landing on the road behind me. Every time I topped up the oil, the whole routine took hours....... The there was my first car, a 1966 Triumph Vitesse 1600, the doors droped on their hinges so when going around roundabouts at speed it always resulted in the the passenger door flying open. In the end I had to tie the door up with nylon rope. thank goodness thoses days are well and truly over
Blaa
1969 capri a GT XLR, hah, missed that one with 12 years... 1966 Triumph Vitesse 1600, and that with another 3 years Beeing an 81 I really can't remember really bad cars...
Sven
Never had an embarrasing car (that would be a Micra or a Daihatsu mini MPV). Had some cheap old ones and quite a few better ones, but they were always kinda special in their own way. Even my hfl. 200,- Fiat 124 Special T at the tender age of 16... The police used the same as 'interceptor vehicles' since they were pretty quick at the time. Had the Capri 2600 GT XLR too, very light silvergreen metallic, with the 'hump' on the bonnet the lighter models didn't have. Loved that car when I was a kid. Some Lancia's, Alfa's (2 litre Bertone Coupe), quite a few Yanks, Corvette, Mustang, Z28, Firebird and whatnot. Heaps of BMW's, Merc SL, SLC, Opel Diplomat V8, Daimler V8, several Jaguars, Porsches, Jensen Interceptor.... etc., etc.
bradeywalker
The first car I had was a Fiesta Bonus, burgundy colour, its probably what I did to it was embarrassing, alloys with locking nuts that could take out your knee caps, blacked out lights, spotlights, a go faster strip, an additional rear brake light, screw on exhaust end, a clock/thermometer to give it that added luxury feel, racing pedals(why I ask myself now!!?). It truely looked like I had ram raided Halford's!! I still see it knocking about with a cotton top driving it, how it does make me chuckle to myself..... teejoo
A Mazda 121... One just like this one (don't have a pic of mine). It was a 1.1, it didn't accelerate, didn't brake, didn't steer, but I was only 18, and it got me from point A to point B...
drwilk
I got one on all of ya! How about a bright yellow Morris Minor with black vinyl roof, burgundy velvet headcloth, Fiat 2ltr twin cam engine, Mk10 Jaguar rear axle, Triumph Herald front suspension, 10x15 rear wheels. What a mongrel. Went like stink tho. A few weeks after buying it I was doing a slow u-turn, the front wheel bumped the kerb slightly and the steering arm broke off the hub. It had been brazed on!!! Blue
lol, I've never been ashamed of my car, but when I think about it, I would be now. Look at this: my first company car, and me and my mates decided to go for the highest thing we could get out of our employers so I won the bet and negotiated this piece of fine rally machinery. It look like the rally car seat had in that period and even had a quad straight thru exhaust sytem and a diesel engine of +-150bhp, breaking the gearbox 2 times and in the end blowing the engine to bits (that was after 30.000km of HARD driving)(as you can see from the speakers, I have always been a fan of deep bass) Now i'm ashamed of my choice back then, but come to think about it, it had cart like handling and I've have loads of fun with it.
