Ritey
Well there could be a number of problems ranging from, the wires are properly connected to the back of the radio unit, the wires aren't properly connected to the speakers. It also could be as you have suggested that the fade setting has all been pushed through the front in which case you should adjust this if possible so they are balanced front and back or biased to the back depending on how much music you like in the front. Is this a standard VW radio or is it an aftermarket job that someone has put in? Hope this helps a little DW
fitboy2837
Hi thanks for replying, it is a brand new vw beta radio. And when i try to adjust the balance it obly gives me the choice of lefy and right not front/back. Do you know how I can do this
Ritey
Looking at the Beta Radio literature it doesn't look you have the option to change front to back (fade) this could indicate that the radio wasn't designed for rear speakers, however, that doesn't mean that it can't have rear speakers, just means that you can't adjust the fade. Its more than likely that the speakers aren't connected either at the headunit or at the speakers or both (If you arent the owner from new its more than likely that the previous owner(s) had a different headunit in that did have fade option. To make the rear speakers work you need to take out the headunit and check they are wired in correctly, chances are there won't be seperate rear speaker wires so if there are any already leading from the rear speakers they need to double into the front speaker connection on the headunit. If this has already been done its worth then checking the speakers themselves to make sure they are connected to the wires, if they are then all should be well. If (when) you get sound out of the rear speakers it will be like having 2 sets of front so you won't get a surround sound quality i'm afraid
fitboy2837
thanks, what do you mean i wont get surround sound, surely if fonr tand back are on it will work. Also, do you think its possible that there are no speakers there, just the speaker covers. And btw this csr is brand new thanks
Ritey
If you wire in the speakers all through the front because there aren't any rear speaker leads available your creating two lots of stereo rather than having to different signals one front and back, therefore you won't get the surround sound. If its a brand new car check your spec, it might by that your right in saying there aren't any speakers on your model in the rear, but on other models there are! Would be surprised to find a new car though with only 2 speakers! Hope this helps

Ritey
Well if you did want better sound and rear speakers i would recommend sourcing a new headunit, and if you want good quality speakers at no cost i recommend crystal or infinity, if you want quality bearing in mind cost i recommened some of Magnats stuff!!!! fitboy2837
ok, i dont really want to change my head unit, will that make a big difference? Also what is magnats? and how can i get them for no cost?
Ritey
Generally after market headunits should provide better quality and features than most fitted car radios, but its not essential to change them to improve car sounds. Magnat is a brand, they provide good quality products at very competitive prices to see the range click here Magnat Range Hope this helps
fitboy2837
also, if i was to keep my head unit, with your experience of vw's do you think the sound will grt worse? Also will it be pretty easy to install. One last question, is there anyway i personally can check if there are speakers behind the coers?
fitboy2837
hi will these speakers fit in my car? and are they any good? http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?id=17431&type=0&cat=
Ritey
Hello, Firstly I would not recomemend buying any ICE (In Car Entertainment) from Halfords, purely because you can find the same stuff much much cheaper, as for those speakers, well I've never had pioneer speakers so can't say personally what they will be like but reading some reviews they aren't too bad. Good powerful speakers, and i've found them for £60 so if your looking to get them, you could save £30!!! - Not sure whether they will fit, not even sure what size my speakers are yet coz I haven't take off my door cards, worth going down to a local audio shop and asking if they know before you buy anything, or finding someone on here with a new polo, (mines the older version) Hope this helps a bit sorry in taking so long with the reply! fitboy2837
how do i take off my door cards to chekc if there are actually speakrs there?
shao_khan
the easiest way to find how stuff comes apart is to ask if one of the local technicians could show you - they know how it works and can give a quick demo - if they are sociable chaps. IF not I cant remember how the polo ones fix, but a lot have plastic clips that just pull out - but can break. I am sure someone can advise you of how it is with the polo. Sven
Magnat makes some excellent speakers! I wouldn't recommend Pioneer speakers tho. I was very disappointed by them, I'll never go there again...
fitboy2837
ok, what exact magnat speakers would you recommend?
Sven
I'm not too familiar with the new series, but I think they can advise you pretty good, dependant on the type of music you listen to mainly... Besides your choice of music, it's also very personal what you like, but I'd be surprised id you wont find a range to your liking. Thing I like is their crisp sound, and the tight bass. (The Pioneers tended to make a mess of quick repetitive bass notes (like a bass quitar riff). I hated that, but the Magnats handle that like it should be. (Had them in the car as well, but only have them in the house now, as my present car has Bose).
