kermit
hello all, I am thinking of doing a full respray on my car. I have been quoted £2800 for the job by: american-autos.co.uk it includes : [ QUOTE ] A fully photographed bare metal respray service, this includes the stripping of the car to bare metal, rust cutting out, plates welding in, etching primer, primer and 2 pack colour. Each stage is fully photographed and an album is created to add to your cars history. - The Ultimate Paint Job!!! [/ QUOTE ] The questions are, is it ok for £2800? and also does anyone know a good garage/paint center down london? thanks
Snail
Id say if it is a full strip to metal, respray, and re-assemble, then yeah that sounds reasonable.
neilp
I spoke to a restorer before who said that going back to bare metal wasn't alway the best way especially if the bodyshop didn't have the right facilities. Basically the metal would have never been exposed to air/water vapour outside of the factory where the conditions are monitored and that a bare bodyshell left only for a few hours may not be 100% dry when they come to paint it and all your doing is basically sealing in the moisture only for it to appear at a later day as rust. Not sure how acurate this is but sounds as if it could be.......
Sven
Well, it all depends on the quality of the bodyshop of course. If they're any serious they have a heated cabin, and they should know better than spraying a car before it's absolutely dry. If they don't have a heated cabin (also essential to dry a car after it's painted, in order to get a smooth, dust free paint job) I wouldn't even go there. The bare metal thing can be very good, but it also depends on the condition of the car if that's the best way to go. Oh, the price sounds resonable, and the photo thing sounds good too I think. But check some of their work before you go ahead I'd say.

I am sure there is a closest one. but I can't find anything on the google. help, anyone with good addresses ?

[/ QUOTE ] This was what I was talking about, IMO the only way to get a perfect finish.... Website looks a bit iffy, but that doesn't neccesarily mean anything. Some pics show good work, others are iffy again (like the scooter). Make sure they take everything off, and not tape it. That may cost a bit more, but IMO that's worth it if you want perfection. And as said, check out some work when you're there...

Sven
What about the other one you mentioned before? Price difference should make it worthwhile to check if they provide similar quality, and maybe give Matthews address a call as well...

It will take time for me to put the car up to the level I want, but once it's finished, you will be amazed.
