Snail
Colin, theres been loads of posts on the ipod of late, basically its the dogs danglies, all the reviews i've seen say it is the best portable MP3 player available. They seem to do various sizes, 10GB 20GB etc, 10GB will hold 1500+ decent quality songs, so at say 20 songs per album, thats 750 albums. Id guess that'll last you a day or so. Chelsea Mick
If you get the iPod and use it on public transport, make sure you change the headphones to a different make. Evidently the iPod ear phones are distinctive and people are getting mugged for thier players....
jem2768
Isn't there currently some dissatisfaction about the rechargeable batteries used in it? They are expected to last like 18 months then need replacing at half the cost of the player again... iPod battery prices.... Aside from that, luverly
jem2768
Did you get anything yet Colin? I've just (today) ordered an iRiver iHP-120, should be with me tomorrow... neat-o From lookin' round it appears the iPod is not quite up to the Creative Zen in terms of sound quality, has limitations in terms of the files it can transfer around (e.g. not being able to upload mp3's to a PC), has limited file types, doesn't record, etc etc... I went for the iRiver cos it has recording capability plus provides optical line in / line out for hooking up to the stereo at home and 20GB which should be adequate if not overly generous... danksy
I'm really pleased with my 40Gb Ipod, got about 7000 tunes on it at the moment. You can transfer files to a pc, just connect with USB2.0 or firewire and explore like a regular USB drive. As for the battery I got a 3 year warranty when I bought mine, and apple are also doing fixed price battery repairs now IIRC. IPOD is a design classic, get one! Best place price wise are the duty free d!xons at airports where they are genuinely 17.5% cheaper than high st. prices!
jem2768
Yeah, they're looking 349 for a 40GB iPod in tax free dixons at Stansted, I had a look last week... if they'd had a 20GB I'd have been very tempted, I couldn't quite justify this much money for a "toy" I'm afraid. But... looking round the net, the iPod seemed to be somewhat lacking in a lot of areas (obviously the design isn't one of them!)... limited file format support, difficulty transferring files back to a PC (really?) not the top-of-the-league sound quality, unable to record, no line output, etc... 'fraid the iRiver iHP-120 did it for me and, after having received it yesterday, I must just add WOW! Incredible... great sound quality (supports mp3, wav, ogg & wma), USB2, even the FM radio is good. Line out/in, both analogue and digital, etc... and 250 notes. Ok, only 20GB but I think that should do the job... for now
