sirho
I bought a March 2002 A3 T Sport recently and was told that an alarm came as standard equipment. To operate you are simply meant to lock the drivers door and ensure boot is locked etc. However it doesnt seem to activate, since the lights do not flash and there isnt an LED near the door locks. Has this happened to anyone before?
PreacherCain
Most odd. Looks like you have a dealer visit coming up, laddie. Normal behaviour for the alarm system is (as long as all the doors and bonnet are shut properly) you press the "lock" button on the remote, and it locks. You hear the door locks function, the door pins drop, and the hazards flash once. You press the "unlock" button, the hazards flash twice, and you can get in. The only thing I can suggest is that you have a door open somewhere when you're operating the lock. Be aware that if the driver's door is open, the locks will still lock but the alarm won't arm till the door is closed. Basically, it sounds to me like your remote might have a flat battery or something. If it's an Audi Approved car, the dealer ought to sort this under warranty IMO. sirho
Other people have said there is an alarm reset switch in the rear right passenger footwell, however I cannot find this anywhere. Do you know where I can find it? Is it hidden behind the panel/trim? I bought the car from a (non-Audi) dealer in Newcastle. They said it had a 2yr manufacturers warranty, although I thought it would be 3yrs? Would an Audi dealer/garage look into this problem free of charge? I do not have the remote central locking fob, but according to the user manual, simply locking the drivers door should have the same effect as the remote locking fob. RobA3
If your not sure wether you have warranty or not, I would suggest you ring Audi UK on 0800 699 888 and they will confirm and sort it out for you.
PreacherCain
[ QUOTE ] I do not have the remote central locking fob, but according to the user manual, simply locking the drivers door should have the same effect as the remote locking fob [/ QUOTE ] Yes, it should. Did the dealer you bought from give you any idea why the remote fob wasn't included with the car? From new, they're supplied with 2 remotes plus a black plastic workshop key. Is that the only key you have? If so, I'd go back to the dealers in the first instance and ask them where the remotes are; it seems mightily careless of the previous owner to have lost BOTH of them... The other option is to go to Audi UK and ask them - I doubt this'd be covered under warranty tbh, and the remotes really are worth having. If nothing else, at the moment you have a car with 2 remote keys (which will open it and allow someone to drive it away) just floating about somewhere. At the very least I'd get an Audi garage to re-code your immobilizer so it'll only work with the key you do have. Might sort the alarm problem as well, since you're right on the driver's lock switching it on and off. Edited to add: I don't know aqbout a reset switch, but at the bottom of the driver's side B-pillar is a button which activates and deactivates the interior motion sensors. The alarm/immobilizer is still armed, but you can leave a dog in the car (or whatever) and it won't set off the alarm. It's a black, flush-fit button like the air-con controls, at the bottom of the B-pillar. Worth a try, but I have no idea if it'll solve your problem... Colin M
He has a car that was built for the Gibraltar/Cyprus market where an alarm is not standard.
