A6 Xenon Failure?

What does a dim dipped beam with a pink tinge mean? is this a faulty bulb ( if so where and how do i replace - as i can find no mention of it), or is it something worse?

When the lights come on (set to auto on/off) they appear normal, then auto level as usual and then the drivers side bulb dulls into a pink tinge.

has anyone any insight?

Cheers

It could be either bulb or ballast/ignightor pack.

The first step would be to swap the bulb to the other side of the car, and see if the fault moves. If the fault moves, its the bulb, if it doesnt, its the ballast/ignightor pack.

With Xenons, this is not that straight forward. Removal of the lamp is entirely car dependant, they usually twist lock in, like a bayonet lamp, but on my S3 for example, due to the length of the lamp I fail to see how it could be done without the headlight being removed, which is a bumper off job, or a large amount of parts from the engine bay removed.

The ballast/ignighter packs are a headlight out job on the S3, as they are bolted to the underside of the lamp. Again on the taking my S3 as an example, I beleieve the ballasts are not available seperately from Audi, So their fix would be an entire headlight@ £4**+ You might be able to get a ballast/ignightor pack off a scrap merchant, or ebay and swap yourself.

If your not sure what you are doing, get a garage or specialist to initially swap the bulbs over to confirm where the fault lies, and go from there.

Xenons work at an extremely high voltages and currents which can be deadly if handled incorrectly. Always work with them off, and battery disconnected.
