netrays
Just purchased vw touran 1.9tdi se 0overplate, iv noticed the rpm in 6th gear at 70-75mph is over 3000rpm, although it has enough pulling power. This can not be right, i think this is also effecting fuel consumption, im only getting 32mpg. Can this be anything to do with the clutch, as iv been told its on its way out. Any information would be appreciated or is this how it should be.
cruiser647
Hi ya! Welcome to TSN! I am surprised it is that high too. My Bora 1.9 TDi was just over 2K rpm at 70. Have a look in the manual and it should tell you about the gearing for the car. Various on-line data sources will also tell you what mph/1000 rpm you should have in 6th gear. However, the Touran is bigger, heavier and has worse drag, so it might be right???
netrays
Thanks cruiser647, Iv recently started noticing, when running idle and it has been running for sometime it sounds as if it will cut out, before it was only when cold. Could this be down to the engine timing?
cruiser647
That's not good. Could be allsorts. Has the car got a full service history? How long have you had it? Have you found a decent local independent garage for servicing?
