This striking BMW Zagato Coupe has been revealed at the prestigious Villa d’Este Concours in Italy.

The hand-built one-off concept car features a number of the Italian coachbuilder’s hallmark design cues, most notably through the glass boot lid at the concept's rear.

The car’s subtle twin-dome roof is another Zagato signature, last seen on the Aston V12 Zagato, a car that won the Villa d’Este Concours last year; the British model has since gone into production at a cost of £405,000.

Further changes to the standard BMW model include the addition of large cooling ducts on the shapely bonnet, plus redesigned bumpers front and rear and new dual exhaust tips. The alloy wheel designs are also unique.

No technical details have been revealed by BMW yet, but it is possible that the Zagato is based on the 306 bhp, 295 lb/ft torque BMW Z4 Coupe sDrive35i. Performance figures of that car include a 155 mph top speed and a 0-62mph sprint time of 5.1 sec.

At last year’s show, BMW unveiled its extreme open-topped two-seater – the BMW 328 Hommage – which was designed to commemorate the 75th birthday of the BMW 328 racing car. In 2008 the marque also used the event to showcase the M1 Hommage, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the iconic supercar.
