Tipex
Hmm, doesn't sound good. We have a Humax Freesat box on the TV in our waiting room, and touch wood, never had any issues with it. They are generally regarded as being the best boxes out there, hopefully you've just been unlucky and they haven't started cutting back on quality. craigyb
I have a HUMAX freesat HD (non recording) box and that lasted about 12 months. One of the power caps died on the PSU, a quick google sorted the fix and i had a spare in my parts bins. So that is working again, but redundant as my new TV for the bedroom has freesat HD and recording built in. So just need to sort the lounge now with a recording system. shao_khan
So one thing that appears to have happened with the update - I'm not currently getting warnings of clashes for recordings and in the last week I've had 3 part rec programmes which is very annoying. Biscuits
We've still not got the new menu.... Try switching the box off at the mains for a "while" or over night
burble
I don't know if it'll help, but you can force a download of the software - SkyHD | Box stuck in standby. I don't know if you'll get the software you currently have or the new one. I've not tried it yet but I'm still on the old software.

Yes, this will force an update, but you'll loose all your recordings
burble
you'll loose all your recordings[/size] No you don't. I've just done it any my recordings (past and scheduled) are all still there.
Biscuits
I searched for the reset procedure (can't find the web page now) when I wanted to force the software update and one of the paragraphs said recordings would be lost. Maybe I had found a 'hard reset' procedure, rather than just a software update
craigyb
Forcing an update doesn't lose recordings AFAIK. Well it didn't on mine. Update.... sky box turned off now in favour of an Echostar 6000 HD 500GB PVR with built in slingbox. Lowest priced of all the big players, yet seemingly the best. NewNiceMrMe
I'll switch it off tonight. Actually, I seem to recall the last time something like this happened I only needed to power it down at the mains for about 30-60 minutes?
eldavo69
Updating now, fingers crossed everything comes back up!
Tipex
Just switching it off wont work, you need to either force it to download the software, which should obviously be the latest version, or leave it switched on in case tonight is the night it's scheduled to update, if it's switched off after midnight, and they send the update signal to your box in the early hours as they normally do, it won't get it as it'll be switched off. The updates normally happen in batches, for all the various different brand Sky boxes.
