annastrz
Hi my Mk3 golf 1996 1.4 has been drinking water the past week but I could't find out where it is going! I've checked the obvious things such as leaking cap, head gasket (I am no mechanic) but found no milky substance in the oil or water which I know is a sign of the head going. So ended up taking it to the garage who said I need a new water pump as it is leaking. He has quoted me £150 for the parts and labour. I want to know if this is a difficult part to replace as I looked on ebay for a new pump and a new one is only £20, I've had some dodgy quotes from other garages before hence the question (being female doesn't help) some advice would be good before I go ahead. Thanks!

Mook
It's at least an hour's labour to replace it. Ask what their hourly rate is - £70 + VAT is the norm these days for independents.
