DanG
Anyone using this on a mac? Much as I am buying into all things apple at the moment, Sage do not 'support' Safari so can't tell me how to install it. They say it works fine, but i need to adjust trusted sites settings - no idea. It runs via Citrix Receiver, but i cannot get Safari to launch the receiver. Google is useless too. Anyone? NewNiceMrMe
If you can, take a look at Kashflow. Very impressive.
Daz
Yeah kashflow is very good. Been using it for about a year now.
Mook
Subscription based as well, about £18 a month IIRC.
NewNiceMrMe
I pay £150 + VAT a year for it, invoiced annually, so yes I guess that must be what it costs. I didn't know they'd bill monthly. Our accountants bill it annually.
DanG
Thats a lot cheaper than Sage. (£1,400 a year, 3 user license, on line hosted / backed up) Only issue is that I am inheriting a Sage database, which (in theory) I can upload and use whilst retaining 6 years worth of data. In fairness, it has uploaded and looks right now, when i can get the thing to launch. The theory behind it is that its web based and you can access it from anywhere, a useful ability if you work in three different offices. problem with iMac seems to be that Excel fails to work properly (opens the file, which then disappears, but seems to be still open in the Window drop down and Citrix won't run - although I am guessing these would be more at home on a pc..... About to buy a cheapo MacbookPro with more memory, so maybe that will help.
NewNiceMrMe
Kashflow is unlimited in users and transactions. It is hosted online too. It is serious competition for Sage and has been for a couple of years now. What's more, they have created a Sage 50 Migration application. You download and run it, it takes your Sage database and verifies the transactions- and then uploads them. They've seriously hacked Sage off because of it. There are some interesting add-on's too. They've struck up a partnership with EKM Powershop (eCommerce software) so it takes all online transactions in immediately from any website using the EKM system. They've also got an invoice factoring partner too and as soon as an invoice is raised it lets you draw down on it. Our accountants love it and they reckon the invoice factoring option is very popular (I don't use it because I loathe the thought of giving up a percentage of what we billed!). It even integrates with MailChimp and other email marketing sites. I have a horrible feeling they'll get bought out in the near future because they're making real in-roads into Sage customers now. NewNiceMrMe
p.s. the irony is that Sage started out by saying they wanted to take the hundreds of thousands of businesses under their wing by offering well priced accounting software. For a while, they did. But they've gone up and up in price and a lot of people have started looking elsewhere. So the irony is that all Kashflow did was steal their business model and develop better software.
DanG
Well if they can take the Sage data, it's worth a look at. Should talk to you about online advertising too at some point. Thanks!
NewNiceMrMe
Should talk to you about online advertising too at some point. I can only help with FB or Twitter advertising as all my dealings are on social media platforms these days, and even then it's primarily organic marketing. The only reason I know about Sage is because they're Newcastle founded and based. They're about 15 minutes away from me. Up until about 2 years ago they were easily known as one of the regions best employers. Their remuneration packages were sky high and their benefits equally impressive. However, over recent years that's changed a lot. I know a few people who worked for them for a long time and left because of how the company changed. It wasn't unusual 10 years ago for someone to join in their early 20's as a programmer and start on £40k, then be on £75k within the year and then into six figures no problem at all. That was when they developed the real hardcore of their software and did very well. Their senior programmers earned very good salaries indeed. Their telephone support staff were starting on £17,500 aged 18 at the same time and were on £25k within a year as they had an excellent progression system and ever increasing numbers of staff at the bottom. That was for what was a script based telephone support system (one of the first of its types in the UK actually) and very little more than the ability to be polite to someone. That's all changed now though and it's fair to say their support staff aren't known for long lengths of service...
Biscuits
We use Sage, it's expensive, but the support is very good. What happens at year end? Can you export to a Sage backup for the accountants to use? I'd be interested to take a look at a hosted solution... although I guess if you loose your Internet connection you loose the whole admin department! NewNiceMrMe
The accountants have a system provided by Kashflow called Orbit (I think that's the name of it) that they use to control client Kashflow accounts through it. So your accountant can get to the system when he needs to.
Mac
I'm fortunate enough that I only issue about 4 invoices a month, it's nothing I can't do on excel. What's the advantage of such a service for a company set up like that? Any? I suppose it would deal with the odd quarter of a million VAT demand where you realise they put the '.' in for you.
