forresthills
I have a Macbook Pro 17" which suffered from an Nvida graphics card failure outside of the extended replacement program. I'd like to reuse this in some way and have been able to connect to it via remote desk top which is good, but not great. Which got me thinking about USB to DVI adapters, but there are issues with lag and video support. Anyway, long story short, the 17" Macbook Pro has a ExpressCard/34 slot. So the question is, if my internal card is dead, will I be able run and external monitor(s) via a PCI card with DVI ports (I have a spare DVI monitor). My thinking is yes, but before wasting money on an adaptor, I thought I would ask the Genius Bar on here. So...geniuses (or is it genii?)...what say you? forresthills
For anyone remotely interested....no you can't. The Macbook Pro 3.1 is the only Macbook Pro that doesn't support video via the ExpressCard/34 slot. So it's a no for me. I've found a 'repair' place that can handle the Nvidia issue a a similar cost to the ExpressCard/34 DVI option anyway. Better all around.
