fizzbitt
What happened? - I've just had a quick glance at it and couldn't see anything that would warrant this post? part way through the vid while they were singing YNWA there was a section of United fans chanting what i can only presume to be something untoward... Twinspark
Sadly, it was bound to happen. Some fans are idiots and we can never get away from that. We'll get the same in the return game with 'aeroplanes', too, thus continuing the cycle.
Scotty
What happened? - I've just had a quick glance at it and couldn't see anything that would warrant this post? Instead of keeping quiet for the period of respect they continued with their tribe like chants. These aren't fans of football. They're just members of a gang. cruiser647
Sky Sports focussed on this. They showed the Liverpool fans singing about Munich. And then Utd fans response about being victims and murderers. The volume wasn't too high and the house was full, but they handily typed out the words for all to read. Not sure which side started the chanting, but Sky showed the Liverpool side first.
Waylander
They showed Man U fans signing "where is your famous Munich song" I am not trying to be tribal here but the Sky Sports feature I saw seemed to pin the blame squarely at the feet of Man U fans
NewNiceMrMe
One-sided thread to say the least. Cruiser is correct - there were Munich chants too. However, neither the idiots chanting about Munich, or the morons singing "United" during YNWA are a disgrace to either club. They're a disgrace to themselves. The vast majority of supporters showed each others club respect and it is wrong to focus on the feckwits that will never change. They exist in life outside of football with sick jokes about all manner of things. Neither club should be associated with these people. They're not fans, I agree on that - but let's just remember it isn't just on one side. They're at all clubs.
DanG
Not rugby clubs they aren't. Admittedly i am not a football supporter and have had very little contact with the game, but I found it incredibly distasteful to hear that this kind of chanting went on at all. Dislike the referee, dislike the players, dislike the club - all understandable points of view - but make up chants about the death of innocent men, women and children? Seriously? It's a game for goodness sake.
Scotty
One-sided thread to say the least. Cruiser is correct - there were Munich chants too. I have no bias either way. Just posting what I saw featured. Happy to be corrected. Crying shame for football and society.
NewNiceMrMe
Tribalism at its most primitive form - unfortunately it still exists in football. But, as I've said, nobody should think these are 'fans'. They're thugs for whom football is a mode of transport to air their sick views, nothing more. The focus should be on the fact that 99% of people celebrated justice and gave a moment for those lost. Most fans will engage in exchanges of quite epic proportions every day of the year, often quite vitriolic, but will always see through the game when it is needed. garcon magnifique
Hopefully the worst offenders will be singled out and handed all ground life bans. But I would rather ignore them than give them the oxygen they crave. Instead let's concentrate on the fact that the day was admirably respected by human beings on all sides. Liverpool have shown a great deal of class in the last week or so, and I would like to think Sir Alex has earned a little bit of respect from Liverpool fans for the way he has handled it too. Waylander
The 2 LFC fans who provoked the Man U fans at the end were ejected from the ground by the police and have been banned for life. Another part about this is the role of the media. I have watched matches year in year out on TV and I have NEVER heard the chanting so cleary on the box as it was yesterday so they obviously massaged the sound to bring it out more. The same way half an hour before the match the beeb had Ian Ayre on the radio and the presenter spent 7 minute (I was driving in on call so was bored!) banging on and on about Suarez and Evra. Even when Ayre repeated tried to move on and draw a line pointing out it they were now a non-issue he was like a dog with a bone "yes okay you say that but you can understand what I am asking" Edited September 24, 2012 by Waylander spelling
NewNiceMrMe
Indeed, Sky didn't do themselves many favours yesterday. Anyone who saw the interview with Ferguson and Rodgers pre-match (side by side) can't have missed the look SAF gave when the interviewer asked if they'd (Suarez and Evra) shake hands. He was livid but controlled it. He simply said "I'm not anticipating any problems." and Rodgers followed suit with the swift "Yes".
