Luke
I've been to Bangkok a couple of times. Loved it! Some interesting sites.... I can see the way forward being to go on holiday with wife and kids too somewhere near the race so say Langkawi for 2 weeks and then go to the race at KL (right next to the airport) while you're there. Similarly with Thailand and say Phuket.
Andy_Bangle
Formula One Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone revealed that the 2015 Grand Prix calendar will feature a night race on the streets of Bangkok.Ecclestone said that the location has now been chosen, and specified that the race would come a year later. "They say 2014 and I say 2015. It is serious and it is good," he added. The annual fee for hosting an F1 race is $27 million and it is understood that the government of Thailand would foot around 60% of the bill. Yeah, more races in Asia. Just what F1 fans really need. There's set to be 19 races next season, 21 in 2014 when New Jersey and Russia are scheduled to join so more races will have to be cut to make way. I don't really see the point of hosting another night race on a street circuit, Singapore fills that quota nicely and it's not very far at all from Bangkok. Didn't Bernie look at the turnout for ROC a few days ago? Terrible.
Andy_Bangle
The organisers of the proposed Thai Grand Prix are focusing on relocating the race to Phuket after plans to host it in Bangkok were dashed by a new law. A month after a layout was approved by the Sports Authority of Thailand, the Thai government introduced a law in May banning racing in the cultural quarter of Bangkok. Having initially feared that the race could be cancelled as a result, Tourism and Sports Minister Somsak Pureesrisak says there is still time for a new venue to be found, with Phuket top of the list at present. "I can confirm that we cannot hold a Grand Prix on Ratchadamnoen Avenue," Somsak is quoted as telling the Bangkok Post. "The law, which took effect last month, prohibits a car racing event in inner Bangkok. "Phuket should be an ideal venue which meets our target to promote tourism. We still have time to prepare for the race." Andy_Bangle
I know, Phuket can't handle an event that size.
