Grrrr, network suppliers....

Sitting here spitting tacks at my own stupidity. SWMBO was contacted by the people who supply our telephone service with an offering of a much cheaper internet service than the one we had with Orange, at the time my gut instinct was that this wouldn't be a good idea but let myself be convinced by the reduced costs. I contacted the "sales" bloke and said that I would change as long as I could continue to use all my own kit and would not require a new router, this was OK he said, not a problem. Anyway, went on holiday for a week and when I came back yesterday found a parcel containing a new router had been left and my internet was no longer working with my current set-up. OK I thought, connect up the new router and find out what the ISP User Name and Password are and enter them into my trusty Vigor, err no, the router is locked down and cannot get to any of the information. OK, contact the support centre and ask for the user name and password, nope can't have it as it's in a chip in the router and they won't give me admin privileges so I can find out what it should be. Can't get the MAC address of the router either so now none of my extenders work (currently I have a several extenders around the buildings all pointing back to the MAC of the Vigor, some are chained and some are direct). So now probably looking at a legal wrangle to cancel the contract for the service and go back to what I had before but as this is France it aint goin to be easy.

PS after a haranguing the sales bloke he did get a user name and password, but guess what, it still won't connect to the internet so there's something else that needs to be changed but don't hold down any hope of finding out what.

It's a French company called "afone". I believe it's the username and password that have been supplied is the problem, when I do a network status display on the Vigor it displays "invalid user name or password" intermittently. It took some doing wheedling to get the one that they gave me, I've gone back to them with that info and they are now strangely quiet. I've verified all the other network params (channel, VPI, VCI, Protocol, Modulation etc.) and all those settings are correct.
