billy2shots
First off I should say this is my first iPhone so I can't compare it to an older model. Secondly, how pants are iPhones! I'm sure it's me and my lack of knowledge and there are ways around the following issues. For a start writing this is like pulling teeth. Everytime I want to put a full stop, coma or number I have to keep going to a different keyboard page. What's that all about? There it is again to put a question mark. Where is the back button? I don't want to go to the home screen just back to the last menu ffs. Saving contacts was a pain in the arse. Can't just pop in my old sim as this is a nano job. My old phone was android to couldn't use cloud. No worries I will Bluetooth one at a time. Nope iPhone won't except Bluetooth from my old phone. It can pair but will not except data. Had to go old school and manually do it. Ahhhh this bloody no numbers or , ? . Is bloody driving me mad. I'm sure I will think its great when I get used to it. Should add I was typing this while waiting for my email account to sync. Just checked and the settings menu is all locked/crashed and I can't do anything in there. billy2shots
Thought it would be quite an enjoyable experience but its anything but at the moment. Everyone raves about how intuative they are to use but I have never had a phone demand so much in just the setup process. Fine if you all ready have a cloud account but pain in the ass if you don't. Fecking full stops....... This can't be right, you must be able to have a different keyboard setup. Settings still locked up verifying my email account even after turning on and off. Great start to iphone ownership.

m4ttm4son
Didn't it just work? You don't have to go to a different page for android numbers? Like all new phones, you just have to get used to it. When you change from iPhone to iPhone, it's freaking easy peasy. Can you sync your android phone contacts to outlook and then from outlook to iPhone?
bazza_g
And ? And comas and numbers Just use Siri to dictate the email/text message - works brilliantly

Also the case for punctuation marks. In 2 years my htc desire never locked up. So far settings has locked up and as I speak the App Store is locked with "ok" just sitting in the middle of the screen. Time to turn off and on again.......

billy2shots
Send it back. If you can't get to grips with an iPhone in an hour then you shouldn't own a phone. Nothing to do with getting to grips with it. It's very long winded to do simple things which goes against what people say. Just downloaded YouTube, Facebook and twitter. Really, this is 2012 why is this not preloaded like it was on my old phone 2 years ago. It seems its very geared to making money for the Apple company. Thought I would check out the sample videos to see what the quality was like. Wrong no sample videos, instead directing you to the is tore. Same for Sample music tracks. I know it will get better in time, I'm just a little disappointed at the minute.
NewNiceMrMe
It's very long winded to do simple things which goes against what people say. Absolute bollocks. Why would you want 'sample' videos? Why would you want 'sample' music? You'd have to buy both on any platform for them to be legal anyway, so stop whining man! Andrew
I exported my Nokia contact to a Windows address file and then imported that to iTunes. It was a doddle. I got on with the 4 immediately and also had YouTube pre-installed. I even like the full stop etc function.

billy2shots
Got to agree with this one, its just not possible to struggle with an iPhone! :roflm I don't know where this notion of struggling has come from. I don't count not liking certain features or phone locking up as struggling. I'm struggling to like it, not struggling to use it. Other features I don't like. The touch screen is not as precise as my old phone, it makes pressing the unread icons on tsn etc a little annoying, having to zoom in and then press. Last night I waited for the phones battery to completely finish before I charged it for the first time. Like every other phone I have owned that resulted in the phone turning itself off. Plugged in the charger and left it for 14 hours. Unplugged it this morning and the fecking thing was on. Why has it done that? So it's first and most important charge of its life was while the phone was on. Will that affect battery life at all? I can only presume like in many other ways, Apple has to be different, and because I didn't physically turn the phone off it went into some kind of standby mode. While I'm bitching, why is the keyboard always in capitals? I presume this can be changed in settings as even the basic phones change to lower case letters after the sentance has started. Calm Chris
Contacts sync in iCloud, sync the old phone ones to outlook, do any editing you need and then get iCloud to sync the update outlook contacts to the iPhone. Simples.. Take the caps lock off for lower case.. I do accept thers a slight syntax re order required by the human interface, maybe you need a reboot and that will get you away from thinking iPhones should work like your old phone. I understand what you are saying about syncing this and that. My point is that's much more long winded than just putting your old sim in and saving to phone or bluetoothing contacts across. The capital letters thing is not what you are thinking. I am typing in lower case yet the keyboard is in capitals. I find the fact the keyboard doesn't change and display lower case very poor. Of course it's a learning curve when switching to anything new and it will take time. It's just little niggles (apart from locking up) at the moment, not huge or serious things just niggles. Calm Chris
Walk in to any network provider phone shop and they will use a device to swap stuff over. I went to voda last week and they use red box to transfer all stuff from the Nokia to the iPhone, took all of 3 minutes. You could also book an Apple expert in the local Apple store and they will spend 20 minutes going through any issues you have FOC.
Tipex
I find the fact the keyboard doesn't change and display lower case very poor. See now I find it annoying when using Android phones that the keyboard changes from capitals to lower case, whats the point? It just makes it look more fussy, doesn't add any functionality, and makes you have to double check what letter you are typing next (because it's just changed). After all, the keyboard on your laptop/PC doesn't change when you type a letter, so why would an on-screen one? I also find the fact the keyboard isn't crammed up with numbers and stuff makes it much easier to type, especially given that i've never used an Android device with a touch screen as accurate as an iPhones, it makes much more sense to me, to have the numbers on a separate page, so the actual keys can be larger. billy2shots
Right last one I promise. I have been trying to set a song as a ring tone and have failed miserably. I had to google for ideas, this apparently is what needs to be done to achieve something so simple. Any song you have on your Itunes has the capability of becoming a ringtone. Step by step 1. You need to go into file info and select the size and time you want for your song to play! click ok 2.. Next you right click on song and create AAC version which will create a file of whatever segment of song you selected. 3. Now go back to the original song and set the start and stop time of the song back to the stock times. 4. Right click on the new shorter version of the song which should be less than 30 seconds and open up into explorer. 5. With the file showing in windows explorer now change the file extension to m4r. Select ok for every box that opens. 6. Now drag the file into the ringtones section of itunes you are good to go. 7. Now just go into your contacts and edit and select which song for each person you want. You are kidding right? All I want to do is select a song that is on my phone and apply it as a ring tone. This would have taken 2 seconds on any other smartphone I have had in the past. Click on the song press menu, apply as ringtone, done. This is exactly what I mean when I say making simple things long winded and if some people disagree then they really are deluded. It seems an iPhone can not be enjoyed as a standalone device and requires a computer and iTunes to work like it should.
Arch
Did you do any research before buying it? :roflmao:Did you not think hmmm, I'm going to shell out a ****load of money on the most hyped phone release of the year, maybe I should see if I like it before I commit? It's not like the foibles & 'features' have been kept a secret since Apple first launched a phone.

It's not like the foibles & 'features' have been kept a secret since Apple first launched a phone. Unfortunately trying to read mobile phone reviews about iPhones is impossible. You have the owners who won't hear a bad word said about apple and how simple and intuative their products are. Then you have android owners slagging them off. However neither side go into any great detail on why its good or bad. Cnet etc just compare the hardware and say its down to software preference.
