Ubuntu first impressions

First off I should say this is my first Ubuntu install so I can't compare it to Windows 95, 98 or Windows ME.

Secondly, how pants is Ubuntu!

I'm sure it's me and my lack of knowledge and there are ways around the following issues.

For a start, (the irony..) where's the Start Menu? Everytime I want to launch a program I have to do some weird techy **** to get it to work. What's that all about?

Where is Solitaire? Or Minesweeper for that matter? I want to setup a scrolling message screensaver, how do i do that?

Ahhhh this bloody no Start Menu Is bloody driving me mad.

I'm sure I will think its great when I get used to it.

Should add I was typing this while waiting for my iPhone to charge. Just checked and the battery is 100% :)

Ubuntu - great for a server. Great to do either a limited job (well) or a job on limited hardware.

Things like updating the graphics driver can be EXTREMELY painful.

However, there are some programs running on ubuntu that beat anything else hands down (WHEN THEY WORK), for example MythTV is excellent. Does many things very well. But there is absolutely no way a simple end user could use it.

Utter bollocks.

Just because your not used to it, doesn't make it crap.

My 76 year old aunt hasn't had any problems or my 9 year old dog etc etc........................................

If your going to do a parody, at least make it funny.

I'll consider that a nibble. :P

I have a 55" Ubuntu, so feck off or I'll set my big dog on you. Okay?

p.s. and you won't be able to hide, cos the dog has integrated iPhone 9 and can track targets down by ringtone radar.

Pfffft. After 30 seconds, ringtone radar is useless.......:P
