David Coulthard will retire from motor racing following this weekend's DTM season finale at Hockenheim.

The 41-year-old Briton, whose career included 13 Formula 1 World Championship race wins for McLaren and Williams, and has competed in the DTM for Mercedes since 2010, wants to dedicate his time to other things

"This weekend will be my final race at this level," Coulthard said. "Now I'm going to concentrate on developing my off-track businesses and, of course, spending more time with my family.

He's still keeping his ambassadorial roles with AMG and Red Bull.

Very odd chap is DC. He can obviously drive well enough but has never shown the talents needed to be a consistent winner.

I've always been expecting him to come out as a gay - It wouldn't matter at all if he was gay but his very prim and proper manner screams gay.

He has loosened up a bit as a F1 race commentator and his knowledge adds value to TV race commentary but his grid walk interviewing is wooden.

What are we going to do without Jake Humphries? :notworthy:

DC is probably my least favourite sportsman. He comes across like a big cheese but as far as I know won feck all. A few GP poles here and there doesn't make you a legend.

I'd probably dislike more footballers but on the assumption that any footballer comes below DC, he starts the list above roundball players.

He's certainly not a legend but he's won a few GPs over the years which is an achievement.

He's a top professional journeyman IMO. Nothing wrong with that.

He can certainly commentate too. Brings lots of insight with a good level of charisma.

What's not to like about him? Haven't heard of anything bad he's done/ said

....He's professional. He commentates far better now than when he started and does bring lots of insight as an ex F1 driver.

However, he is very lacking in charisma. If he has never done/said anything 'bad' then that probably contributes to his lack of charisma. I don't dislike him but I just find him very dull. Even Kimi Raikkonen has more charisma (just!).

He did come 2nd in the 2001 F1 world championship so he's hardly rubbish! Re Jake, switch on to Sky.

....I don't wish to pay to watch Sky TV. The feckin' BBC TV licence is legal robbery in my opinion anyway. Apparently it's a criminal offence not to pay it - How do they justify that!?

I'm sure his years at McLaren would remove any charisma but he does have a dry sense of humour. I judge people by whethrt I could go for a pint with them and for me I certainly could with DC.

I keep meaning to pop down to his small museum for a look around as it's only a couple of hours away.

I don't agree that DC lacks charisma. He's not all jokes and stupid comments like Eddie Jordan, but that's a good thing IMO. Even his pit walks where he's just talking to a driver would be a trial for someone with no verve, but they are great. He'll be off to sky soon enough. Who is the "insider" for them ATM?

There's no way I'd go to sky to follow a presenter. The only bit I want to watch is quali and the race. I'm not even interested in the build up TBH unless I'm not busy.

Just out of interest, why can't you get the full freeview?

I thought the Digital switchover was now complete (we were one of the last areas) and that meant area's that previously didn't get it all, should do now.

The Cardiff transmitter, which gives full Freeview is over the other side of a mountain, the transmitter covering our valley is a 'relay' transmitter and doesn't carry the full range - apparently the mast would need a significant upgrade to carry the full range of 'muxes'.

Ok, but, you have a Sky dish, so you can receive Freesat, which is exactly the same channel line up as Freeview, so if you wanted to spend some money, you could either buy a new TV with Freesat built in, or a Freesat box, or cancel with Sky and ask them to send you a viewing card for the free channels, think they charge a one off fee of about £9 for the card that gives you all the free to view channels, again, same line up as Freeview/Sat.

I looked into this - there were some differences that meant Freesat wasn't an alternative for me.

I wanted to ditch Sky and get Freeview plus BT Vision.

My Panny TV is both Freeview and Freesat, so we have both of those, and Sky in the living room, utterly pointless of course, and only ever use Freeview/sat when the Sky box is recording 2 things already, and they are effectively free so might as well have them connected.

The channel line up on Freeview and Freesat is identical, with the exception that Freesat broadcasts channels in HD, whereas Freeview in our area does not.
