Couldn't see a thread about it so far.

But it has me wondering - our current auto option company car is the Megane 1.5 dci with a fair number of toys. List price is close on £20k and emissions are something like 109g/km.

The top of the range Sandero comes with similar amounts of kit, the same engine and comes in under 100g/km CO2 - plus it's usefully around half the price but 3/4 of the size.

If you could have one with a spacker box, they'd make an awful lot of sense as my next company car.

Can't help but think of the TG piece where Clarkson & Hammond went to see what they could get second-hand for the same money. IIRC, Clarkson picked up a CL600 & Hammond found an 850Ci.

They claimed they were going to live with them for a while and report back - does anyone know how that went?

They did report back on them, Clarksons bargain CL cost him over a grand for a new injector I think!

Ahh, yes, I remember now.

He said it cost about a grand - but you could get 'em on ebay for 50 quid, or something like that.

Anyway, doesn't anyone else have an opinion on the Sandero?

An opinion on it?

Buy an older car, like a Merc CL. (with proper tyres and proper old school auto* box)

The Sandero will be so built down to a cost. I have visions of everything being wafer thin - like Stooh's BMW 1 Series sun visors.

* I couldn't type Spaker box.

It's too early for any real world reviews as the European order books have only just opened. IMO the only shocker is the warranty "Every Dacia Sandero comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty as standard, but buyers will be able to extend this to five-years/60,000 miles and seven-years/100,000 miles for £395 and £850 respectively." 3-years is quite lame when it's up against it's Asian rivals. A fully loaded one will still set up back £11,630!

Well, I wouldn't be buying - just wondering if anyone else would take a punt if they start to appear on company car lists.

I see your logic. How many miles do you do ? That Fiat 500 twinair thingy looks fun if you're not going far.

I do around 25k business miles / year - but this year I did a chunk of them in the MX5 when we had decent weather.

Thing is, I like big cars - I've had a couple of Passats and would have another if I could. However, we normally have 2 standard company issue cars - Focus 1.6TDCI Zetec and Megane 1.5dCi automatics - they're both bog standard, budget build, hatches - so I don't see any reason why I would choose one over something like a Ceed or even the Sandero - *if* we had a choice, which we don't.

(My Golf was a returned car from someone on a different car scheme to me - some people my grade get the car as a perk, so have a choice - our cars are essential business cars, so are standard issue....)

If you do any reasonable mileage, big cheap cars that were expensive when new never work out well.

Whatever costs £1,000 to buy still has the running costs of a £30k, £50k or £60k car (or however much it was new).

Blokes who bought the 840/850Ci's nearly all have to get used to electrical problems of all kinds - and the 850 was notorious for engine gremlins (though the 840 is said to be rock solid).

I would be absolutely amazed if the build quality of the Dacia is remotely as good quality as the Focus. I would happily drive 25,000 miles in a Focus and perhaps a Megane but for me the Dacia would only really be suitable for pottering around town as it is almost certainly going to be no fun to drive, unrefined, horrible to be in, flimsy - cheap in every respect in fact. 25,000 miles in one sounds very unpleasant! The only conceivable reason to go for one really would be budget, and the figures would have to be brilliant to sway many people.
