thebrickcounter
Hi Not a good day. Whilst driving at 50mph, car lost all transmission. managed to get to safe stop. Initially, I had a problem pulling out onto the roundabout, despite 4k revs the car moved at 20mph. I then drove a further mile down hill, the steering got heavy and I noticed the car had lost power!! I then stopped the car!! RAC man opened cover to belt and noticed that cambelt sort of in place, but full of debris of another belt. The car currently has 72k miles. I had belt, tensioner and water pump replaced last june 2012 at 65k miles by an independent (albeit Audi specialist) who used genuine audi parts. My service book is stamped and I have an itemised receipt stating that the above work was carried out. The car is an 2006 model. long and short of it is, after RAC dropping off to garage, The service garage say water pump failed, despite only being 8 months and 6k old, causing damage. They tell me after them speaking to Audi that they have to lorry it over to main dealer for them to deal with as failed genuine part. May be good news if ther can be some. I assume I do have redress? but who with.? I am trying not to get involved and let the indi garage sort out as after all my contract is with them? Obviously I dont have another car to use. Can I insist on Audi dealer providing one as this could take a few weeks to sort? The indipendent garage dont have cars to give out and after all it may be purely down to the supplier of the genuine audi parts supplied? any help appreciated. Cuprabob
As the water pump is a genuine part it will have a 24 month warranty and Audi will replace FOC, if they confirm the part has failed. However, I'm pretty sure they will have a clause in the small print of the warranty that they are not liable for consequencial damage of the failure. I hope I'm wrong but I think you may have to pick up the tab for this unfortunate incident.
thebrickcounter
Lets hope not. My contract is with the smaller garage anyway, and at no time were terms and conditions of materials they bought showed or explained to me! It would seem very unjust for consequential loss to be excluded for parts failure within a few thousand miles. Lets see whats said today!!
Cuprabob
Reading it again, i agree the Indy should resolve the issue for you as they supplied and fitted the part that failed. In their terms and conditions printed on their invoice they may only warrant their work for 3k miles / 3 months whichever expires first, so they may try to use this as a get out. Good luck and hope they resolve it to your satisfaction.
Ian_C
First two things I would check would be that the water pump was actually replaced (not just the old one cleaned) and that a proper OE part was used (not a dodgy OE stamped pattern)
thebrickcounter
I am suspecting as they (indy garage) are happy to send to audi that all will be confirmed that they used new water pump etc. The Indy garage say they have a receipt from audi for the parts. The service manager at Indy garage used to work at vw Milton Keynes and says the dealership which after all are franchises once confirmed failure is proven will merely replace all parts and damage and claim against audi uk. so fingers crossed. Imagine tho its not gonna be quick!
thebrickcounter
OK. Audi have got the car, and now replaced the water pump and cam belt etc. They advise following the belt being replaced that the timing is all over the place and thus they are removing the head tomorrow to have a look!! In laymans terms, does this mean the head is knackered, and potentially engine?? They have told my indy garage that they will charge the costs against AUdi UK warranty. The work is going to continue into next week!!
Tipex
I'm I reading this right, the cam belt snapped, and they just replaced it? Without checking to see what other damage had been done? And without checking the timing marks were lined up? Do Audi know anything about their own engines?

thebrickcounter
Blimey, AUDI are slow. They still got my A4. no word when they will finish sorting the engine out? Ive still got the A1 1.4TFSI tho. so not bad. Ive done over 1000 miles in this!! Not at all economical for such a small car.
Luke
I should think Audi are having a very good look at the pump. If its failed then the complete batch could be very expensive for them. Keep ragging the A1 until its sorted.
thebrickcounter
Got A4 back today after new head, belt, valves etc etc... also had coils replaced under recall! Now got error message P2187 - system lean at idle! Car feels sluggish. Got to take back tomorrow. I assume this is related to all the work theyve done? thanks

shao_khan
Did the car have any warning lights on it when you collected it, did any come on after leaving the dealership or did it just feel rough?
thebrickcounter
Hi just felt very laggy. next day I noticed the engine management light!! Audi still got it, so I'm still running around in the courtesy TT. Could have just been a coincidence, but them having the car for 6 weeks or so, Im not too impressed !! thebrickcounter
No, not yet. Well I got a call 10 days ago saying it was fixed again, but as the tax and MOT has expired I asked them to MOT it. Not heard anything since. Still driving around in the totally unpractical but nice to drive TT. I'm clocking up the miles. DOne over 4000 miles in courtesy cars!! Better in their cars than mine! thebrickcounter
Hi I got a call today saying it was ready! thousands of miles later, it is finally fixed. Apparently it had something with the Turbo changed?? All FOC, so I'm pretty happy. Cant see how a cam belt would affect the Turbo?? But Hey Ho. Gonna miss the TT drive, but not cabin space!! Far too small.
