Scotty
Ok it's gonna be underpowered for the size but that's gotta be value for someone (just maybe not on TSN!) Brand New Vauxhall Zafira 1.6i [115] Exclusiv 5 door | Perrys I'm surprised this deal is available
Tipex
Thats because it's the old shape, and the new one is so much better looking it'd need a big discount to shift it. 1.6 should be ok in that, wont be fast but then people carriers don't need to be, really it'd be better with a diesel though, as at least it'd have some torque for when it's loaded up. Twinspark
I suspect they're struggling to sell the old Zafira now that the new Zafira Tourer is available - especially as the standard Zafira is based on a 10 year old and discontinued Astra platform. I think they've also moved production to Eastern Europe to cut costs, too. It's also poverty trim with a totally inadequate engine - I had the misfortune of getting one as a hire car about 5 years ago when my Passat ate its clutch and flywheel. It was quite possibly the worst car I've ever driven - and I used to own a MkIV Escort... Not only was it totally underpowered, but it also returned under 30mpg due to the need to thrash it everywhere.
cruiser647
It might well be VERY underpowered and result in poor MPG, but many people won't see that and will look at the 'official' mpg and the thought of haivng a new car on the drive. And for many people who don't care/know any better, it will do!

Tipex
Underpowered for what though? For normal day to day driving, it will be absolutely fine, it won't struggle to keep up with traffic, nor will you be holding other people up in it, it will be perfectly adequate for 99% of the populations requirements, and return perfectly acceptable MPG for a car of it's type. It won't beat a Golf GTi away from the lights, but then 99% of the driving public don't want to anyway, as they are unlike us and not motoring enthusiasts. My Galaxy doesn't have a lot more power than that, and it's fine, I've also driven the lower powered Galaxy that has less than that Zafira, and again, for normal driving it's absolutely fine, as have been all the 1.6 Zafiras i've driven. To put it onto context, they both probably have similar performance to an XR3, which was considered sporty in it's time!
Twinspark
It's a petrol, and I believe your Galaxy comparisons will be with a diesel. A modern 1.6 16v petrol, with all the emissions gubbins and an extra half tonne of weight over an old Escort isn't going to be quick or economical for most of the population. (the 0-60 for the Zafira is 12.5 seconds, which sounds a lot better than it feels) Stepping out of a 140bhp Passat diesel into that model Zafira was painful! I'm sure they'll sell by the bucket load, though, as they're very cheap. But a 2nd hand diesel Galaxy or S-Max would be a much better purchase. Scotty
Just noticed it's got 115bhp That's the same as my old Golf GTi which did 0-60 in a breath taking 10.5secs To be fair it's probably not underpowered for the school run etc
Tipex
Yes the Galaxy is diesel, hence my earlier comment about it being better if it was, as it'd have more torque. I still don't see how it's 'underpowered' in any way, if it was a sports model then yes, but it isn't.
Twinspark
Well, I've driven one for the best part of a week. It was absolutely fücking awful. Also had a 1.6 petrol Mk2 Focus for a couple of days in Dublin - that was also awful. They just don't have the torque needed to make sensible daily drivers. Tipex
Well Barry Scott seems to manage pretty well with both his 1.6 petrol Focus and his 1.6 petrol Zafira! I suspect it was down to your driving style, having just come from a TDi Passat you'd have been used to the lazy torque you don't get in n/a petrol engines. theduisbergkid
Wow, that seems like a bargain to me, and I doubt the typical Vauxhall MPV driver won't notice the lack of poke. Our family bus should be updated really, mechanically it is excellent and it drives nicely, but the missus has had a couple of parking prangs and the freak hailstorm we had here last year has left it looking like a golfball. I might be tempted to take a look at one of these at that price.
Tipex
They make a sensible family car, flexible, plenty of space, hard wearing interiors designed to be abused by kids. Kinda automotive white goods, does what it says on the tin, but won't stir the soul. Personally I'd avoid anything in the lower spec range, as the seats seem very different and not very nice on long trips, the better specced cars seemed much comfier. But for a brand new car, with a new car warranty and all the other peace of mind a new car brings, that is a bargain, just don't look at a new shape Zafira while you're in tje showroom! cruiser647
Does it come with the warranty or servicing for life on that deal?
Tipex
If it's new it'll have to come with whatever new car warranty Vauxhall are currently offering, which is probably the slightly ambiguously named lifetime warranty.
