DivineE
First you are almost definately correct in assuming its the valve guides to blame if your burning oil. 944's have very tough piston rings because of the engines V8 origan but the valve guides are a true week spot! Hartech Engineering in Norfolk are a very well respected firm, they offer a head exchange service £300 plus fitting. First however I suggest that you take the car to your nearest knowledgable mechanic to make sure it is the valves that are to blame. It is possible for the head to warp on 944's because of their all aluminium engine. This is not usually a problem but if the engine is consistantly run with a low oil level it can happen.
