What's the worst car you've ever owned and why? You have to have been the registered keeper (loads of people have cars on lease, which is fine).

Mine was a Renault 14.  Traded for no cash by my stepmother and given to me because I'd killed a VW Bug I had at the time and had to have a car to get to work and back.

It was shit.  No other words for it.

Spongey, rusting, slow, slipping clutch, stank of cigarettes inside, all of the beige velour seats stained variaous shades of brown from feck knows what, spare wheel winder-downy thing rusted on.  At 2am

Oh everything about it was just atrocious.  Never had another Renault again.  Well, apart from a pearl white 5 GT Turbo I bought in 1995 :)

the Renault 14 was like this, but worse - almost the same colour as well

2003 Skoda Superb.

Quite simply the most unreliable car i've ever owned, typical 'VAG with longitudinal engine' understeery barge.

Seemingly nice interior peeled itself to reveal nasty cheap shiny plastic that even Subaru would have laughed at, ate tyres, and brake pads too.

In the 3 years I owned it (from new) I had one* single day with the car when it didn't have a fault of some description, and that was the last day.

*seriously, I drove it off the forecourt, brand new, with a warning light on.

MrMe's will be interesting. Will it be the hard riding Z4. Or will he choose the blinged up MGF. Or will it be the jaaaaag? The choice is his.

I wouldn't say the MGF was blinged up as such.  Motobuild cams, flywheel, exhaust etc, but from the exterior it'd be difficult to tell.  The interior was ripped out and replaced though, with proper carpets (not their horrid stuff), chrome, and piped leather.  Ok, perhaps what you said had something in it.

It isn't at all difficult for me though.  In fact it is very easy.

It's the Z4.

The one flaw on it ruined everything.

It eclipses the many flaws of the X-Type because when (the odd days) they didn't shine through to ruin my day, it worked and worked well (barring the 17 mph from the 2.5 V6 that appeared to think it was a 5.0 V8).

The MGF was a very reliable and well planted car.  For all its oddities and sitting too high, it didn't try to be something it wasn't - until I basically had it rebuilt at huge cost and lost a fortune on it. :roflmao:

By the way, I've always had nice cars me

The title doesn't specify you had to have owned a bad car, just the worst of what you've owned!

If I discount the taxis, my worst car would have been the Renault 19 16v, not actually a bad car, but worse than all the other sporty stuff i've had over the years!

I've always bought half decent cars, but I did have 2x stand out company cars that were absolute pigs do dahs.

Gentleman I am ashamed to admit I did 10k miles in the company spare hack, a Rover 820 Sterling- a car that had been recovered from our Malta offices and had spent its life on the rocky roads. It was epic poo.

A firm I worked for decided diesel was the way forward, a few years too early. The car driven for 2 years was a Peugeot 309 GLD. Great down hills rubbish up them, sadly I did 60k miles in that heap. No turbo, although you could buy a sticker.

56 plate Range Rover Vogue TDV8.

Everything went wrong with it. Nothing worked. Dealer Network made up of ex-double glazing salesmen. At two years old it needed new bearings, electrics, locks, batteries, window motors, front loom, air compressor and by the end it was spraying diesel all over the engine bay.

Couldnt give it away in the end - went to WBAC at heafty loss.

Never, never again....

Okay okay.... The worst I can think of is when my previous R32 sporadically combusted a few years back. Before the insurance settled my payout, I bought a Toyota Avensis off a friend for those few weeks.

I just remembered, I still have it actually parked on my friends drive where its been since he took me from there to pick up the new one. I think I should do something about it..

Oh I just remembered this one. I had a friend who back in the day had bought one of those Honda Prelude pop up light jobby things. He was driving round in this 'thing' prior to getting the  Honda and was always underneath it, inside it twisting cables together or repairing one thing or another on it.

When he got the Honda, he came up to me and said...do you want it? I can't be bothered to sell it. You can have it if you want it.

As I'd never had a car at the time. I was over the moon and quite appreciative of it. What was this thing? A Renault Fuego!! A complete pile of crap.

Here's what happened. About 3 weeks after getting it, I was on the A13. It was raining, I switched on the wipers, humming along to the tape player. All of a sudden, I keep hearing under the dash little sparks....then massive ones, the cars filling with smoke and a fire has started under the dash.

I parked close to a ditch, noticed it had started to burn, ran off and left it there....I never went back!!!

I told him about it a few weeks after and he said he knew that thing would end up in flames...

For me, it was a choice of 2 vx products.

A Cav 2.0 CD - E-Reg.  Throttle or fuel pump issues whereby it was only happy on full or non.   Anything inbetween and it would judder and shake.

OR

An Omega 2.5 TD due to the epic ability to drink diesel.  However, it might have had something to do with stepping out of a 4.2 V8 A8.  I went for the economy option and regretted it.  Economy was BAD!

Renault Fuego!

I've got a bit of a soft spot for those for some reason, also, utterly shît as they are, i'd love a Renault 18 turbo!

I believe the Fuego and 18 are basically the same underneath, not sure why I hanker after one, but I do, probably stems back to a mate buying a Fiat Uno Turbo, and me having to drive his 18 Turbo back after we'd picked it up, the 18 only had 3rd gear, and still whipped the arše off the Uno!

1984 Austin Maestro 1.6HLS in metallic beige.

Do I really need to explain why?

:roflmao:

Yes!

Ok, if you must. I learnt to drive in my Dad's Maestro 1.3 base model and it took (almost) everything I threw at it. Granted it was completely shagged at two years old when he sold it for a (sheeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiite) Mk4 Escort but it had left me with a good impression.

So! When I came to buying something of my own* I thought maybe a Maestro would fit the bill, but fell into the trap of looking higher up the model range. So, a metallic 1.6HLS with lovely beige velour seats, 80odd thousand on the clock, about 9 years old.. what could possibly go wrong? For a start it actually felt slower than the 1.3 even when there was nothing wrong with it. In 6 months I replaced the gear linkage, alternator, distributor, at least one belt and a couple of shredded front tyres. When it worked I abused it terribly. I sold it after that 6 months at a 40% loss and spent the next 2 years on the bus.

WTF did HLS stand for?

Hills Lose (you) Speed

Or High Luxury Sport.

You guess.

Was that it? I often wondered! I'd have suggested Horrendous Lethargic Shitheap.  +++

* This wasn't my first car, I'd had a couple of Cavaliers beforehand, but there was a gap of a year or so until I could afford the Maestro! Really should have stuck with Vxs!  Or the bus.

This might surprise some or on the other hand might point to a lack of appreciation of car dynamics but ...

Of the five cars I've ever owned on my own (80s Fiesta, 2 x Polos, the LCR and an M3) the worst two have to be the ones that my dear wife introduced to my life - the MX5 and the family Focus. Or the two, the MX5 takes it.

The ride is shite, the interior is shite, the stereo is shite and I just thought it was shite.
