eldavo69
I followed this Lotus Esprit for about 5 miles this week. He was ducking and diving through traffic and giving it a blast when the opportunity presented itself. He went to turn off and as I drove past I saw an old guy in his 60s driving with his similarly aged wife sat next to him. Big beaming grins on their faces with bright red 4 point harnesses on.
NewNiceMrMe
Wow. That's a Sport 300. Why is that special? They only built 64....
CarMad
Has someone got Ian_C and MrMes' ID mixed up by mistake?
NewNiceMrMe
Ha. But we're in my era now. When Lotus made proper (unreliable) cars that looked stunning. I coveted that car.
CarMad
Yeah I know what you mean but it was still a miss even at the time. It handles well, very very well but the engines just didn't work well. The V8 was meant to be wow stunning but it wasn't it sounded poor even dull and just didn't add the soul to the car it deserved well that was my memory of it anyway. CarMad
I'm not even going to go there with the 2.2 yeah it was light and still went well but it shouldn't have been in that car it just didn't make it exciting enough to the ears.
NewNiceMrMe
But they looked amazing back then. Especially in white.
CarMad
They did indeed, I remember wanting one but just wished the engine was as good as the rest of the car, the V8 really should have been it, it still annoys me now that it wasn't.
eldavo69
Oh it looked amazing alright. I couldn't get over how low the bodywork sat, barely wrapped over the wheels.
cruiser647
Wonder how long it took the old boy & girl to get in, strap themselves in, then unstrap and get out!
Tipex
I think they still look amazing today. I'd love a V8 Turbo, and I reckon you could make one reliable with modern electronics etc. Edited May 16, 2014 by Tipex
Torino101
My heart ached for the Esprit V8 as a kid, still adore the shape today. But a bit like TVR, it seems it'll always be a car that I would never be quite brave enough to actually buy.
garcon magnifique
An old friend of mine had an Esprit V8. It melted. Twice.
