I don't mess about see. I do the work in the background, save you lot the torture and then turn up when the deal is done!

Some of you might recognise the infamous "Merscabies".

For those that don't, it's a 1985 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth, very kindly passed on to me by our very own Ben of Shark Performance and already a veteran of two 18-30 trips and a few other escapades.

Ben's an absolute gent and a true romantic - he's genuinely pleased the car is staying in the 'family' so to speak ... and I'm over the moon to get my hands on a proper classic that's also a known entity. Really takes all the potential hassle out of the transaction. :)

So ... *dons Waylander disguise* ... the first of what I am sure will be literally dozens of questions (and one mentioned recently elsewhere) ...

Who do you recommend or advise to avoid for Classic Insurance?

Already ruled out the multi-car option with my current insurer cos they don't do classic policies and would only off third party only!

I am massively impressed, G! What a great motor to get your hands on and with background history too.

DONT PUT GERMAN STYLE NUMBET PLATES ON IT!

Maybe put Senna windscreen sticker on it when nobody is around!

More pics..

Definitely not! It will remain unmolested. I think it's fair to say it's in very good condition for a car that has been used as it should be. It's no garage queen, I wouldn't want one, but TDK can vouch that it is mechanically sound and it holds its age and mileage very well.

In my hands it will be a weekend car but one I hope to use regularly. I have a wicked temptation to race it, but I think that would spoil what is a very nice - and increasingly valuable - road car.

Thumbs up for classic car insurance.  You don't need no claims, limited mileage, agreed value available too.  205 has been with Footman James since I bought the S4 four years ago.  They do insist its garaged though, and I recall you ruled out a two car approach before due to a lack of parking space....

I apologise for the "Merscabies" moniker - it's all my fault.

It started off with me and Fizz walking into an empty pub called "The Goat Major" whilst wearing Burger King crowns - it ended with a trip to a lappy D's and the "Merscabies" title appearing somewhere between pint 3 and 33!

I take it the ad said: "never tracked, never drifted round welsh roundabouts - well, when I say never. . ."

It's not Duisberg's driving you need to worry about, it's bens 'sideways at every roundabout' approach, still if the clutch has survived this long...

Oh, and the leather interior survived being rammed with random junk from a scrap metal merchants surprisingly well, even the big oven!

It's a bit of a baggy old girl, handling isn't it's forte on it's tired old shocks, but, it's an awesome car nonetheless.

With a bit of TLC, some tidying up, and maybe a refreshed suspension, it'll make a fantastic toy.

Just beware of not keeping it somewhere dry, it'll turn into dust quicker than you can spell it.

Great buy, look forward to seeing it again, probably a bit less sideways this time!

You need to watch this...

Especially the James May / Martin Brundle bit :)

As long as I don't end up saying "scheisse" as often as James all will be well. +++

Nice buy, how tickled is it? Being a Shark, I guess there's a few things that aren't quite OEM.

It is standard as far as I'm aware. Meticulously cared for (said Ben!) by a bloke who used to service 190Es when they were new.

Oooooo.  Fantastic purchase.  I've watched most of Ben's posts about that car, and the trips of infamy.

Proper, proper, proper car.  I always wanted one when they first came out (but clearly could never afford one) and 'back in the day' they really were a car enthusiasts dream.
