AZURES3
So after a weekend of test driving it appears I have purchased a 520D Msport Saloon 8 speed auto with 9100 miles on the clock, 9 months old with 5 year service package and in the colour that sold the car to us in another BMW showroom Sophistico Grey, with black leather interior. Couldn't find one with the pro sat/nav but the standard screen matches the A4 size and is enough. Did a good deal that equates to £11k off list price for a 9 month old car that is spotless and has free 5 year service package ! Thanks again guys for the advice the wife and I didn't like the A6, driven on a wet day, A4 seems a bit old hat and wife hated the offset pedals. She was not keen on an auto but drove the BMW and couldn't believe how smooth it was Should be collecting on Friday and handing over my Seat Leon so the BMW will be the new motorway muncher. I guess winter tyres will be in order lol
cruiser647
Well done Geezer! Not a clue what that colour is, but a 5 yr Service package is utterly fab! Size was OK in the end, and yes I must admit, I'd only have an Audi in quattro guise. Don't like FWD, it is the work of a drunk Elzebub.

NewNiceMrMe
Forget winter tyres. Completely unnecessary. My 520d M Sport is the sports auto 8 speed with lots of bits added and I'm as happy with it today as I was.....precisely 12 months ago. That's because it is a year old, today. I shall get around to a review at some point but suffice to say it is a superb car and not one I have any wish to change. It looks as good today as it did a year ago (mainly because I've never washed it, not once) and it has covered 16,050 miles. That's much less than expected but primarily due to a lot of train trips and flights. Those miles will reach around 21,000 by August though. It has returned an average of 46.8 mpg since the day I first drove it off the forecourt. It has never let me down. It doesn't have a single rattle. The MFD and gadgetry has me as enthralled today as it ever has done. What wheels has it got on it Avant? Mine has the 19" and I'm still astonished with the ride quality (no VDC on mine, that's one thing I didn't spec because the cars I'd driven didn't have it and I couldn't see the point). AZURES3
The 520 D M Sport saloon I am looking at is a 2014 model in standard spec. Only options on this car are metallic paint and privacy glass. Ride on 18" wheels was good thought ride on 19" wheels car we tried ruined the relaxed ride a bit but as the car I am looking at has 18 wheels I dont need to worry. Wish it had pro sat- nav and boot spoiler but colour combination was key. So do I get it debadged or does that make it look more obvious its not a 530 D lol. Twinspark
If you debadge it, everyone will assume it's a 518d poverty fleet special...
AZURES3
If you debadge it, everyone will assume it's a 518d poverty fleet special... My wife said that. A little worried in standard form resale value in 3-5 years will be pap but no car is an investment.
NewNiceMrMe
Mine is debadged because of a conversation on here with Shao Khan a few years back on my 645 (about the balance of the car from the rear. On a 5 series I think it looks so much cleaner without the badge).I'd have done the same on a 530 or 535. Only those buying for the wrong reason bother about what people think. It's no different to a 530d in appearance, whereas it is different to a 518d, so I'd ignore company car drivers saying other will think it is a "fleet special". I think that says a lot about how some look at cars and lead very strange lives. There's no 40d badge on the back of the X6. Why is it important to show people a badge? I couldn't give a feck what people think. Those that do "think" are a bit wrapped up in their own insecurities in my opinion. We know someone who has a 40d and has bought one of the side badges (which you can't spec to be taken off, otherwise we would have done) and stuck it on the rear. I just don't get that!If they want to think a car has been debadged for "image" purposes then I would just laugh at their outlook on life. With what I spent on a 520d with all the options I could have bought a 530d or a 535d. I chose not to because the 520d fitted my requirements perfectly. I think the people who have these types of blinkered views are those that think everyone spends the most they could on a car, instead of buying the car that suits them. p.s. I wouldn't worry too much about spec at resale. You're not going to lose any more than most others would. If anything, it'll be a few hundred quid. I'm surprised you felt the 19's spoiled the ride though. I thought the difference was almost unnoticeable and after the debacle of the Z4 ride I paid a lot of attention to the variances from spec to spec! Ultimately you've chosen a safe colour combintion and the only reason I picked the options I did was because I like my cars to be right for me. If that means spending a few grand more, then I will (I think I added about £7k but that made it perfect and I have no moments of thinking "Damn, I wish it had this". We added about £9k of options to the X6 too, taking it up to £62k. Others look at that and say "But you could have had 'this' for that money...." - but they miss the point that it wouldn't be the car MrsMe wanted. That was King. Then you factor discounts and negotiating in and you're never really looking at anything near list price anyway. Chick
My car is debadged simply because I think it looks better without the collection and cluttered look of letters and numbers both sides of the boot lid. As for people and what they think it is, I don't really give two hoots .... and tbh I'd think the majority of people don't either!

Chick
A good example ..... MB seem to get a bit too excited with the amount of numbers and letters they can affix to ones car! Hence my decision, as mentioned above.

Twinspark
We all know that badge delete existed so reps. could order a 316 instead of a Sierra Ghia without fear of ridicule in the Travel Tavern car park
patently
It's also so that bosses can get the top model without revealing to their staff how much they spent Which one springs to mind first depends on your perspective, I guess Edited June 2, 2014 by patently
eldavo69
I have the badge deleted on any car where I get the option, when it arrives I remove dealer window stickers and number plate gubbins too. Anyway - it's not like anyone can read the badge when it's parked backwards in a hedge.

Cuprabob
I opted for the badge deletion option on my Scirocco, purely because the small tailgate looked cluttered with the various badges stuck on. I also request that the garage do not stick on any advertising stickers on the back window. The garage name on the plates doesn't bother me though. Andrew
I could badge delete the BMW but then I'd have to fill in all the vents and stuff to make it a proper sleeper, and I just can't be bothered. That said, if my concreting skills continue to improve it might be an option. I did remove the R badges from the flanks of the LCR when I bought it though - I thought them a bit needless.
