Torino101
I've begun using an LED full HD screen as my home desktop monitor, simply because I do my the majority of my work in the office, whereas my home screen gets used more for streaming movies etc. so needs to be a bigger screen. My question is, the screen is connected to the graphics card via a HDMI cable. Is there any way of passing sound through this? Or am I stuffed with having dedicated speakers connected to the audio output of the desktop? I'm trying to cut down on clutter and my ideal solution would be to have 1 wire running from the desktop to the screen and use the TV's inbuilt speakers. However not sure if this is achievable??? Tipex
You can do it, you need to go in to the sound settings and change the output to default to HDMI.
Torino101
The HDMI is connected to a dedicated graphics card which is in turn connected to the mobo. Will sound actually pass through the HDMI cable through this route just by changing the settings??
chasdrury
You can, but only if your graphics card supports sound over HDMI. Mine does and it saves clutter!
Tipex
I connect my laptop to the TV occasionally, and that's all I do, just change default sound output from speakers to HDMI, I guess it could be different on a desktop?
chasdrury
Could be. On a laptop I've never come across one that doesn't work - only desktop because of the compatibility with the graphics card etc
Torino101
It's quite different on a laptop. I have no issues with sound connecting to a TV on them.

Tipex
On the Sapphire website it says this- " Turn your PC into a home entertainment centre with HDMI. Simply connect the graphics card to an LCD TV with an HDMI input and you will be able to enjoy watching HD videos with audio in the living room." DaveP
I had to change the default output. Also had to update the driver. Then the sound would go out via HDMI
