patently
Huge kudos to Samsung for this. Fantastic work. Launch that here, and when my kids get driving licences they'll have Samsung phones whether they want them or not. (As an aside, the video had much more effect on me than the Irish one, because it was based in real life - not an invented horror story)
CarMad
Yeah thats really good, great to see Samsung innovating rather than copying at least in the mobile area anyway.
Scotty
A brilliant idea and one that actually seems to work. I'd have thought kids would have just pulled it from the holder to do whatever they want without the restrictions but I guess it's so well done they don't feel the need to. The incentives are a great thing. Since in the UK they reckon each death is £1M cost (maybe more now as I heard that years ago) it seems a massive saver of money as well as lives. Tipex
It's a good idea, I do wonder if the reduction in accident rates would extrapolate though. A test base is exactly that, a base of people who know they are testing a new product, so tend to follow the rules. In reality, they'll just simply not use the cradle, or pull it out, much like some navigation apps won't allow you to fiddle with them while the car is moving, until you press the 'passenger' button. I'm also not keen on any form of interaction while the vehicle is in motion, voice activated or not, it's a distraction, much like the utterly ridiculous integration of social media in to vehicles these days. Personally i'd be happy for cars to have all forms of mobile use barred by means of stopping them working, faraday cage style and knocking out any signal. Scotty
But most people wouldn't accept that especially where many use them for SatNav etc. If "the people" are against it then it wouldn't work. This seems to get people on side.
CarMad
Yeah if only a few people used it then it might help reduce accident rates, anything is a good thing. As Patently says I'd get it for my kids in the hope they used it, but they are a little way off driving yet.
