cruiser647
The previous, previous generation. The one that first came with the metal folding hood. This sounded deep and lovely, even through town, BUT I wasn't impressed with the wide body kit it was wearing. Spoilt it's looks IMHO. Maybe it was an AMG Black? Do they come in post box red? Only 2 rear exhausts (modified with 1 pipe each side) but it wasn't a V8 - even though it said 65 AMG on it, I only got too see it from the rear. chasdrury
The 65 was the v12 one, and I think they only had 1 exhaust each side - I saw one I. Toddington services last weekend and pretty sure only one exhaust each side - oval shape....
Andrew
The SL65 had two pipes each side like the SL55. It originally had V12 badges on its flank and more sort of cooling apparel on its front end. Don't recall ever having heard of a black edition for the early model. I coveted one hugely and I seem to recall Woppum had one in his families fleet.
cruiser647
Ahh, cheers Mr! Even in pootle mode down my road (due a a water leak another road was closed, so my road was VERY busy), it sounded like thunder. I can't begin to imagine the forces (and electronic wizardry) needed to keep that on the tarmac.
Andrew
I recall a review I read about it where the person tried to get out of a junction in a hurry. Planted the throttle and due to the immense power and traction control, went absolutely nowhere as the power was cut! I gather it was an animal. Even the SL55 managed to get to 202mph in a test I read about in Autocar.

Andrew
And actually, testament to that is the one time I saw one being driven, where I had the chance to appreciate it a woman was involved. I was perving on some blonde MILF in Waitrose years (and years) ago. When she left, with me not far behind, she got into her car and started it up. An SL65 in dark blue and bloody gorgeous.
