Hyper-car Shootout

The Supercar Driver recently staged a hyper-car shootout drag race event on a closed air strip. The hyper-cars included the Ferrari F40, Ford GT 720 Mirage, Porsche 9FF, Lamborghini Aventador and the McLaren P1. The drag races had only one rule of ‘Winner Stays’ and although the footage is epic, I can't help but feel they might have been a bit sick and tired of the Porsche dominating the strip.

Nice rides, some slow driver reaction times. Conclusion: hypercars don't require good drivers for a smoky flat out. real car racing does.

Have you seen the stats the 918 is generating? It's on another level to the P1 :)

The 918 has been shown to be the 'slowest' of the hypercars by quite a margin, if you can consider any as slow.

Goodness knows when the  uprated Laf and P1 come out they will be bonkers quick.

918 shall surpass all - trust me! +++

I must have missed the LaF or P1 getting near 2.2 seconds for 0-60?! It will murder everything on track :)

Maybe, its a shame it turned up as a lame duck, maybe it will turn into a swan in the end.

They all have 'special' versions of the already hypercars on the way. And since when was 0-60 the rule stick for performance anyway? I'd want to see what a car did on a track, going fast in a straight line is easy, this isn't the US you know.

Someone say fast in straight line...

237.1 MPH run on a closed public road in a 1700 BHP “Goliath”

1200 HP Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Pur Blanc hits 246.4 MPH!!

Early press cars and test drive cars were not 'full beans' - production version comfortably faster than the P1 to 60, to 100, quarter mile and for the track evidence - it shall be along shortly ;)

0-60 2.2

0-100 4.9..........!!!!!!!!!!

0-180 17.5

So launch a car, don't give it the power it can have, get ok ish reviews (not that this matters in the hypercar territory they just sell at the moment it seems), result, or not.

It still doesn't sound great next to a Laf or even the P1 either, looks are a personal choice as well, oh and its still pretty heavy compared to the others as well, fastest, Mmmm we will see.

In fact we will probably never see because I don't think they will all agree for a proper head to head.

Remember the 12C got a 'boost' shortly after launch, reckon the 918 'optimisation' has just been part of normal continuous development work. Personal choice (as you mention) is subjective but thought the 918 sounded amazing, compared to the slightly 'hoovery' sound of the P1 - both are trumped by the Laf for noise, I'll admit that!

EVO and the like will be using customer cars so I'd expect head to heads coming soon, no manufacturer agreement needed +++

I had a good look around a laf on Friday. In the flesh it is spectacular. I dare not drive the 918 as there are 100 allocations left i believe.

Don't be a wuss Wopps! I'd take every and any opportunity I had to drive a 918, LaF or P1.

Life is short, go get some! :D
