grahamjf
Hi all Just noticed in the last couple of days that when turning left the power steering is making a intermittent noise when close to full lock. It does it the same when turning to the right but not quite so bad. checked the power steering fluid today and it has sprayed out from the cap on the bottle all over the back of the headlight unit. It was over filled when i checked it, it was the same distance again from min to max over the max don't know if that would make much difference cause that's where its been since i bought the car. How important is it to have mineral based fluid in it? Last time I bought mineral based power steering fluid it was clear this stuff is red that's in it. Or does it just depend on the brand what colour it is? Edited August 6, 2016 by grahamjf
E-bmw
You will see on the reservoir the fluid to use, it is ATF which is pink.

E-bmw
OK, most are atf these days, that could be your problem, I stress could be. Either way, you need the correct fluid at the correct level before going any further.
