Keegs
Anyone had any problems? Just come back from a week in the Lakes and noticed that my two rear tyres are worn on the outside but ok in the middle and inside. Tyre pressures were checked before and after and everything was ok, never had an accident and hit any majore pot holes. Spoke to the dealer and they want to charge £306 for an alignment check to start, is this right? Has anyone ahd a similar problem??
Ari
Knocked out my fronts in 7 months and 9,800 miles...
jdehoogh
Did you do a lot of cornering at high speeds? could be the reason.
Keegs
The cornering is the only thing I could think of, running round the lakes with a full load but after 400 miles seems a bit strange..? Fronts are fine.....
hashluck
Were you sure to put lots of extra air in the tyre for the extra load? Cab more sensitive thanany car I know for tyre pressures and the Audi recommendation very different depending on engine/wheel/tyre
Keegs
just checked with a mech. I know in a Ford garage, apparently you can feel the feathering of the tyres which means just the tracking out, he says £306 to fix tracking is a rip off! lmmlmmam
Had exactly the same on my previous Cab. Unusually the tracking is adjustable on the rear of the A4. My car was about 15 months and 13K miles old when I first noticed. The dealer did the check and corrected the alignment under warranty. I attempted to get some compensation for the reduced tyre life. No dice - apparently Audi won't guarantee wheel alignment for more than 3k miles, due to it being so easy to knock out (should build them tougher then IMO). Hope you manage to get them to phut the bill as well. Seemed really wrong to me that a FWD car was going to wear out its rear tyres before the fronts. Keegs
Thx for that CabMac. Dealer wouldn't budge and customer service said take it up with the dealer! So I went to a local performance tyre place and all they could find was the front was way out. They think that maybe these were the tyres on the front and they were swapped over during the recent service as the rear alignment was spot on... now had the tyres replaced and see how they go... here's a picture of the offending journey, obviously not cab weather but it did well over the passes in the Lakes!
