brunop
Ok I know Diesels do burn a bit of oil but I've done about 9,000 miles in my car and had to put in about 2 litres of oil so far! Is this normal? I'm using the 0w-15W stuff that comes with the car, would anyone recommend moving to a slighty heavier oil or will that really bugger up my long life servicing thingy? Snail
As far as i know, quite a few cars burn more oil than usual for their first few thousand miles, then they level off. I wouldn't have though 2L was too much to worry about myself.
eolair
the new cars drink gallons. It levels off between 10-20k miles. At 50k miles plus it absorbs oil particles from the air and starts producing the stuff for you to bottle and sell.
UBM
Done almost 6500 miles in 5 months. Have put a small amount of the 1L supplied with the car in and the dipstick is still showing 3/4 in the oil sump. Seems to be better than the old A4 (130TDI SPort)which had 1L and had 25000 on the clock. The dealer said it drinks more during the first 10k - but advised using their oil and said they "give" me more if I needed it? (Something for nothing from Audi?) shao_khan
I have done 8600 in 5 months and had to top up once, not much used though which has suprised me, thought it would be much more.
cheechy
Well I just had to use the last of the initial 1 litre I was given when a bought the Bora TDI over 3 years ago (Its going away at 47k). Its used very little and I was very surprised as well after being told it would drink oil like it was going out of fashion.
danksy
In the first 17k miles I used 2L in the A4 Quattro Tdi. In the PD150 Golf, I only used about 500ml for the same mileage!
Daz
Strange - mine's used hardly any - got the car at 2000miles and it's now done about 17000 and I've not had to top it up at all.
gizze
I bought my car with 50k on it in May and it has now got 65k on it and I checked yesterday and it is right near the max line. The ML270cdi we had before used 3 litres! we got rid of it with 13,000 miles on the clock, so it obviously gets better as they get more miles on them. The 320d Auto touring we had before that was great too, took it to 42k and never touched the oil.
