Did anyone take the Audi Dealers offer of a oil/tyre/brake check on their new car after about 6000 miles? had the letter a few months ago and booked it in. Think it's all fine (seems to be running better than any other Audi I've had). Howeve ECLIPSe.gifr, I'd be interested to know if anyone else had it done (first service predicted at 20k).

That sound low!! but it is a TDI (shoudl that make a difference?) Mine is showing 12,000miles to the next service and it's done about 2,600 miles so 14,600 miles is not bad???!!!

Have not been offered the check yet. But doubt I owuld do it! Unless it is free!

Tahnks for the responses - it is a dealer thing. The 10k for a first service seems very low. Apparantly its all in the first few 1000 miles as you are running the car in (not that they need much of that these days) which makes the difference. The sales guys told me to take it very easy for the first 2k, as the service computer takes into account the driving style etc. Mine is showing 20k for the first service, but apparantly, some people have eeked it to 30k (not sure how!). 10k seems low!

AS for the service costs, I'm on the AVS (Audi Variable Service) plan which is a flat fee of £250 for the service plus parts (oil change, plus, filter, etc) which seems quite reasonable. Most other things would come under warranty. znaika.gif

Thanks for that Meister.

I put a post on here back in April as I wondered why my service was flagging up for just over 10K miles, but we all thought it would extend over time.

Makes sense as for the first 1000 miles I was playing around trying to get to grips with using manual and sport mode on the multitronic. The service gismo probably didn't like the higher revs....

Gonna drive like my Mum after the service then SLEEP5.GIF

AVS Plan, what's that all about? Is it national fixed pricing for the service?

My car is in for its second service today cool.gif, done 38K so far and the last service was at 19k (Jan'04), so not too bad. As the earlier post mentioned it is down to driving style and most of my mileage is on the motorway.

As cabgirl I think mentioned, the computer works partly from number of 'key starts' / mileage driven to calculate the service interval, so town driving will reduce the service interval I guess confused.gif

They quoted me £320 for the second service, oh and the front brake pads need replacing too at a further £150. So an expensive day for me, hopefully they won't pick up anything else. Also got to get two new front tyres which seem to wear out at the same time as a service is due smirk.gif

Looking forward to picking the car up tonight though smile.gif

Always the way Mark

I need 2 tyres aswell!

Wierd what you are saying about the motorway mileage increasing the service interval. I would say 7,500 out of my 10,000 miles have been motorway miles doing 70-90mph. If I'm not on the motorway then I do a 20 mile trip to the office and back. So rarely do any short trips.

Although often on trips where I'm doing more than 150 miles the interval would extend by 100 miles but the next day go back down 100!

Think it must be my fault for dickin around with the manual gears when I first had it. smashfreakB.gif

Quite like manual when you put your foot down, unlike the auto or sport mode it picks up loads better (not sat waiting for a reaction from the pedal SLEEP5.GIF).

meant to ask you Mark, you know your chrome mirrors. When you first got them VAGParts site said they were NOT for the folding mirrors. It doesn't say that now! Don't suppose you know if they will fit the folding mirrors? Can't see what the difference would be!

My trip is 100 miles a day with the odd trip down to Kent at weekends, so my service interval is quite high, but predictable too I guess. I also have the CVT which helps too I think.

As for the mirrors, yes I do have electric folding mirrors too and the covers fit perfectly. When I got mine in Feb they weren't advertised on Vagparts.com, I had to phone them up. They now appear in the catalogue, but they have also increased the price by £100 as well , bandits sportifs2.gif

Your car's spec is almost identical to mine too , nice taste you have cool.gif

You know you can't buy good taste!

We must have been born with it grin.gif

Can I just check before I jump in the deep end with these mirrors? You have folding/auto-dipping/heated mirrors and they fit perfecto?

Has the finish stood up to weathering?

Yes I have identical spec mirrors to yours. The finish is still perfect and I have avoided , touch wood, any stone chips etc. As I have said in an earlier post they look identical to the S4's and the finish is the same as the windscreen surround.

Go for it, you won't regret it !, if you are putting them on yourself let me know and I can provide some guidance znaika.gif

My sevice interval has always been pretty inline with the milage I was doing, but went to the S. of France last week and when I left it was showing 2,600 miles till service, I did 2,400 and it was still showing 2,100 when I got back, so motorway miles make a hell of a difference.

There was a thread on audiworld explaining how the computer works it out, it is somthing like 4 miles is knocked off for every mile travelled while the engine is cold, then 2 miles knocked off for every mile whilst in low gears (town driving) etc. and 1/2 a mile for every motorway mile or two.

That is based on getting the full whack out of it and working backwards.

So it is the 2 or three miles you may do in the morning that whack it right down, in fact if you go out in the morning and sit in heavy traffic with your car heating up quickly, it would seem better than if you go straight out on to a clear road and take it easy.

Also there is a group buy on audi-sport.net for the chrome mirrors, about £70.

Apparently BMW AVS computer used to work in a similar way, then some bright spark realised that if they simply related it to average fuel consumption (total average from last service) it'd cover all the angles!

Makes perfect sense. Lots of hard driving, cold starts, town work, all will bring the average down and hence shorten the intevals, wheras long trips, gentle use etc will increase the average MPG figure and hence increase the distance to next service. Genius!

Makes perfect sense
