A3dude
Thanks to my Audi dealer and the muppet they let loose on my nice 8 month old A3 on its pre valet. They have managed to put some bad fine swirl marks on every panel apart from the roof and tailgate, from what i can see they have used an electric buffer, which has damaged the clear coat, as when the sun catches the side of the car it looks terrible, with banding marks and patchy dull clearcoat., I can see the marks left by the polishing buffer all down both sides of the car. Metallic black is just the worse colour for theses mega fine swirl scratches. Would Scratch X help, or make it worse?
Snail
Clean image/bushy are probably the best to advise but, before going with something harsh like scratch x, try something like the meguairs paint cleaner, its less harsh than scratchx (or t-cut), it might do the job, if it doesn't then scratchx, or tcut is your next step. whimsical_chris
Sorry being a bit think here, but what causes these swirls ? Is it just simply someone rubbing in a circular motion or some sort of buffer machine ? c
A3dude
the way i see it is swirl marks are microfine scratches, only visible in strong light, these can be added in many ways but commonly through washing with grit in the sponge, general waxing, wear and tear. They are swirl due to the circular motion which we tend to wash and apply wax. My problem is that someone has used a hi speed buffing machine on mine not knowing what they are doing and i suspect holding it in one place for too long. As mine has a clear coat laquer it looks bad in sunlight.
Sven
I'd go back to the dealer and raise the issue (to put it mildly). Don't touch it yourself, or they'll blame you...
