russellfray
After all this time, the wait is nearly over! I still am waiting to here from the transporter company whether my car will be delivered tomorrow or Wednesday... but my wife's car is definitely coming tomorrow so that's a good start My poor little Jag is going to have it's last clean in a few hours time. I'll be sorry to see it go as it's been absolutely superb, but I won't miss the rattles it's starting to make or the transmission fluid stains it's currently leaving. I must remember to take a photo of the Jag before it goes as this was my first "proper" car (previous cars have been fairly crap, and either owned by wife or joint owned as I only passed my test a few years ago after having never got round to it!). russellfray
[ QUOTE ] Which Jag did you have then Russ? [/ QUOTE ] I've still got it at the moment It's a 1998 R-Reg XJ8 3.2 V8 Sport, metallic blue with beige leather. It's just hit 80k miles, had it about 2 years at which time it was on about 37k miles. russellfray
Indeed On a motorway only drive I could sometimes get around 24mpg but that was very rare. Usually it would get around 18mpg and as it was the only "big" car we had, we would use it for all the long family trips. When I first got it 2 years ago I could fill it for around £40. Now it costs around £55. Shows how much the price has gone up Considering I have to fill it atleast once a week, it is getting a bit ridiculous! russellfray
Well I was up until about midnight playing with all the gadgets. I am absolutely stunned how perfect the MMI/SatNav+ unit is. Everything is where it should be and works how you would want it to. Normally when using something like that you always are left thinking "I would have designed it like this" or "they should have added this" but nope - it's just excellent. I'm especially impressed by the inbuilt phone kit and the voice recognition system! Anyway I've been awake since 3am and just can't wait until Midnight tonight to actually be able to drive the thing Only negative point so far is that visibility seems to be awful compared to the Jag - but the comfort and build quality is amazing. And my god that Bose stereo - anybody who says it's not very good doesn't know what they're talking about. It's ear blowing with clarity I've never heard in a car before and I thought the Jag stereo was good! I'm off to play in the car again - photos should be here later

BluEWinG
OMG You have an MP3 player for it How much did the audi navigation system cost? Did it come with the mp3 players? I wonder if I could get it added to my a4. What type of cards / cds does it read for mp3s???
bearra
It's just under £2K. The MP3 slots are behind the display (see link) MP3 Slots Uses SD cards or MP3 CD in the DVD drive (not changer) Not sure about retro fitting, but there are lots of new/second hand ones on german ebay. russellfray
[ QUOTE ] What's the voice recognition? I don't have that, is it for the phone system? [/ QUOTE ] Yep - it's part of the telephone preparation kit. You push a button on the steering wheel, then you can speak one of about ten commands such as "dial number" "select name(from address book)" etc. When you say "dial number", it confirms and then you speak any phone number in plain english, it repeats it back to you, then you say "dial" and it calls I never thought the phone would be as integrated as it is and am VERY happy I went for this solution over an aftermarket kit. bearra
Cheers Russ How integrated is the GSM? Do you have the SOS button up by the courtesy lights? Sure I saw somewhere in my manual about some box or gadget underneith the armrest? Wondering if it can be added later?
russellfray
[ QUOTE ] How integrated is the GSM? [/ QUOTE ] About as much as it could be! 1 - On the Nav+ unit, you have a "Name" button which is an address book. You can store phone numbers against names & addresses for all your contacts. You can also store navigation destinations against them all! 2 - On the DIS, you can scroll through all phone entries that are on the phone sim card in the cradle, showing both name and numbers, and call. 3 - Incoming calls show the caller number on the DIS, and also show the name if it's in your address book 4 - Full voice control, allowing "free dialling" (just speak any number), or full voice control of your contacts in the address book 5 - Muting etc of stereo as you would expect [ QUOTE ] Do you have the SOS button up by the courtesy lights? [/ QUOTE ] No - but with so many other ways to make a call you really don't need that. [ QUOTE ] Sure I saw somewhere in my manual about some box or gadget underneith the armrest? Wondering if it can be added later? [/ QUOTE ] If you get the "Audi fitted phone" (ie, permanently installed phone), then you get a socket in your armrest where you can plug a fax machine. I don't have this on mine as I don't have the permanent phone. Russ.

richy_uk
Had a play with a similar setup in the dealers S4 cab today. It really is easy to use and knocks the spots off BMW iDrive and the Mercedes COMAND.
