joeSA
Hi Guys This is my first post here . I am from South Africa and I drive a 2002 S3. I want to chip the S3 but I basically only have 2 choices. One is by a local tuner called Chiplogic which uses a customised MTH chip and the other is a Superchip agent. I would just like to know if anybody here has/had a Superchip and what were their impressions.I would also appreciate it if anybody could let me know if they had serious problems with Superchips. joeSA
Hmmm , so nobody here has used Superchips? Maybe I should give Superchips a miss then. Later Joe
Adam
hmmm - joe - there has been loads of debate about chips over here, we have Superchips here and MTM and a lot of other UK based companies from memory a few epople have had problems with SC but others were happy my general view was there R&D was probably not the best as they do chips for every car under the sun and I wanted a specialist in the 1.8T compaines like APR, MTM, AmD, and Revotechnik specialise in this engine and so I felt know it better SC have a rather ropey image over here - there again I could not believe what I read in Evo this month about the getting their long-term 355 remapped by SC
joeSA
Thanx alot for the reply Adam So u reckon Superchip is probably bottom of the pile in the UK as far as chip tuning the 1.8T motor is concerned? Any idea what problems guys started having with Superchips? Later Joe
Veracocha
It is a difficult one really. Superchips are ok but to be honest I don't think most of the Audi boys round here like the image that comes with them more than anything else. All will see good increases in power so it is really down to your personal chioce and how much you want to pay.
fatcat
[ QUOTE ] Superchips are ok but to be honest I don't think most of the Audi boys round here like the image that comes with them more than anything else. [/ QUOTE ] Must say I also agree, there has been 'talk' about Superchips, but I do not know of anyone that has had a problem, it's an image thing, Superchips = Max Power brigade, I'm aware of people off this forum that have used Superchips with no problems. It's the same old story, it's very hard to decide which tuner to go with, all with quite similar outputs. All you can do is research as much as you can, blagg as many rides in chipped cars, look at their warranty, technical backup...... and go for it. joeSA
Do u guys actually know of anybody that has had problems with Superchips? Here in South Africa I only have a choice between 2 chips. I know a few guys that have used the local chip tuner and some guys have had problems while others have been 100% happy. I just needed more info on Superchips because not too many guys here in SA have used them. My main concern is reliability because I have had a ride in a Superchip and Chiplogic car and there wasn't much in it. Later Joe
fatcat
Given the choice of only 2, then my prefered route would be with Superchips as I've never heard of Chiplogic. As said before I personally do not know of anybody with a problem with Superchips, but I am aware of others with a superchip that have been quite happy. stephencam
Hi My old yellow S3 was superchipped, went like hell Superchip is the cheapest by far but also the most unrefined option. I dont think the mapping of the superchip is up to the standard of the german chips or AmD. Superchips do come with a one year warranty, which is good. I now have a 2003 S3 with a MTM chip (done last friday by Kim Collins) and I have to admit the MTM chip is superb!! MTM has no flat spots and pulls like a train, turbo whine sounds healther too compared to the superchiped S3, dunno why though, could be me hearing things! I did consider other chip companies but I thought MTM is the muts nuts chip and also honours the Audi warranty so I went for it but more importantly it offers the most torque Superchips are OK but if u can afford it then go for a german chip if poss or AmD. Hope this helps and I havent been talking outa my butt!! Stephen
joeSA
Thanx for the info Fatcat and Stephen. Stephen , like I said here in SA I have only got the choice between 2 chips. If I had the option then I would definitely go for a company like APR. When u say that the superchip is the least refined , do u mean the engine wasn't smooth or the performance was inconsistent? Fatcat , the Chiplogic chip is actually a customised chip from a german company called MTH (ever heard of them) Sorry for all the questions , I just don't want to make the wrong decision. fatcat
I've never heard of MTH either do they have a website or had any connection with VAG like Abt or Oettinger ?
stephencam
MTH? Never heard of them, MTM yeah , but not MTH Superchip is OK but did hesitate at times, maybe something to do with too much air/fuel being pumped in at the time German tuning companies such as MTM have access to more codes in the ECU, I believe Superchips can only access a much smaller amount of code compared to the german tuners (this is what I have been told anyway ) DO you have power/torque graphs for this MTH thingy chip? I never had any reliability issues with the superchip but like I said before the MTM chip made the turbo whine sound much healthier. I found that there isnt as much torque with the superchip as there is with the MTM. I would find out more info about this MTH chip before a decision in made. SammyS3
I got the superchip, after seeing the review in Evo about 6mths ago. After contacting Dave at Power Engineering, I had it installed. Admit I had a few minor niggles at first, but they were sorted pretty fast, been fine since -and she really flies . 265bhp/ and 270-5lbft. Have to admit I ignored most of th advice on this site(and Audisport.net). Which seemed to prefer MTM/ABT/APR etc. but the warranty really attracted me most. No problems so far, be sure to let you know if i have any, Sam
