Here's what is known as sleep hygiene , and should be looked at before considering a sleeping tablet from your GP-

- what do you do before going to bed ?- exercise or something scary on tv may affect your sleep.

- how much tea/coffee/cola do you drink? caffeine will stop sleep and shouldn't be taken after teatime or at all if sleep is a persistent problem.

-is the bed reasonably comfortable and warm , dark etc?

-do you have a routine eg bed at similar times each night , not doing night shifts or something like that?

If all these things are ok and still no sleep then it might be time to see the doctor.

Good luck 169144-ok.gif

PS counting sheep doesen't work!

I have a few tips to try before you resort to seeing the doctor!

All of the above apply but also try the following:

-Take a bath before bed with essential oils for relaxation.

-Try spending an entire night without sleep, then go to bed as normal the next night, resisting all urges to nap during the day. This could restart a routine you may have lost.

-Bizarre but it works: Soak a long sock in cold water and put it on one leg and cover with a dry sock then go to bed.

You should fall asleep fairly quickly as blood is forced away from your brain down to the cold leg, making you drowsy.

I would have said that this one is complete pants (or socks!) but I tried it once during my insomniac youth and it did work!!
