A8Mark
Just fitted a air-induction kit to the mighty A8 and not a hard job at all,so far.... As all u fellow A8 4.2QS ppl know the mighty A8 engine is a quiet one to say the least, well fitting a induction kit imo brings the car to life. The sound is awesome, not to loud inside the car but from outside its the dogs b#llocks as they say. Throttle responce is a lot better and improves the car imo.. All i need to do now is sort out the cold air pipe work(using old airbox cold pipe work at mo),plus make up a bracket to hold my monster air filter... With my new quad exhausts being fitted in a couple of weeks the car should sound the bee`s knee`s(imo)... Will post some pics l8rs... Mark... Tobes49
Not to be funny with you Mark but go out and buy a decent air filter, I know they look cool and are really cheap but the flow rate/pannel area would be about a 1\4 of the size of the orignal A8 air filter. I know your testing to see if you like it(if you do buy a decent airfilter) If you do buy one get one with a flat end cap for NA cars. This can bounce the air pulse back into the inlet track
A8_Tony
Useful info as normal Toby, even long distance
A8Mark
Indeed u are correct,i only bought this as a test to see if it was possible to fit one to the mighty A8. I was not going to buy a decent filter if there was a chance i could not fit it correctly or it might not work with the maf sensor. Tbh this filter may look different and not do the job properly for ur car but it works fine on mine. As for the panel area being 1/4 of the size well yes your right it is, but remember the intake pipe work on the original air intake system is only 2 small pipes, where the kit one is twice the size(meaning more air flow than standard)imo. I will indeed be buying a new larger filter when needed but till then it works fine. mark..
vincenzo610
I am very interested in doing. What parts do you need for the induction kit and how do you retain the MAS unit in the pipe?
A8Mark
The process is very easy indeed... All you need is a induction air filter with a 77mm outlet(make sure you get one that will fit in the gap left by old airbox),some tape, cross head screw driver and a tie-rap. 1.Remove cover to airbox this has the MAF sensor in it,its held by to screws undo and unplug wiring. 2Leave the bottom of the airbox inplace as this acts as a heat sheild from the zorst manifolds. 3.Leave all cold air pipe work inplace and also the pipe work that runs to the back of the engine unit. 4.As you will see the Maf sensor is set into a 77mm piece of pipe work,so the induction filter you use must have a 77mm diameter, this will just slip over the MAF sensor pipe work.It will only just go on so you will need to fix it with some kind of tape(electrical tape works fine). Then just for added fixing put a 80-90mm hoseclip around it and secure it firmly. 5.When all this is done you should have the air filter and maf sensor fixed together, insert the other end of MAF sensor back into original pipe work and plug in wiring loom plug. 6.You can either make a bracket up to secure the filter or do as i have for time being use a tie-rap. Heres a picture of the finished artical.. This has imo improved the responce of my 8 and the sound is awesome... Good luck.... Mark....
turbo_a6
I found a full induction kit at: http://www.globalautoshop.com/accessories/automotive/audi_index.htm I was thinking of it but decided too much sand in the atmosphere here so it would be shafted in weeks rather than months. But at $169 and $182 if shipped to UK the price ain't bad.
Stuey
Would anyone happen to know what 57i K&N part number would do the job. I have emailed K&N sales department in the uk and they seemed rather unhelpful. Thanks!!!
Loonstar
I just fitted one of these: K & N Filtercharger for Audi A8 Not sure how much difference it makes, as I put it on 1 day after I purchased the car, bit the car is going well. I paid £40 on ebay for it.. Maybe worth a go for a cheaper option. Jamie
Stuey
I've already got one of those in the airbox, hasn't seemed to make much difference at all in performance and nothing in sound. I'm not to bothered about extra performance, i just want to make my 4.2 v8 sound that little bit meatier
Loonstar
I think you are right - hasn't made any difference on the sound front and power - can't really tell either!! I think a new exhaust is your best bet...albeit slightly more expensive!! I used to have an impreza with a prodrive box and induction kit and it sounded very fruity and was very loud! I think the V8 rumble is more seductive though!! Jamie
A8Mark
You need a dome filter with a 77mm outlet for the maf senser to fit too. Heres a pic of the one ive installed on my A8 4.2... Its an easy job to do... Take off old filter box lid and remove MAF senser from lid(held in by two screws). Leave bottom half of filter box in as this has the pipe work for the cold air intake already inplace, it also acts as a heat shield from the zorsts.. The filter you buy must have a 77mm outlet hole for the MAF senser to fit to,this is abit awkward to fit and needs to be pushed on then secured with electrical tape firstly then a jubilee clip. With the MAF senser fitted to the new filter slide the other end onto the existing pipe work and secure with jubilee clip. Plug the MAF senser wire back into is sockets and then secure filter with some sort of bracket(At mo mines secured with a tie-rap).. It sounds awsome until you fit new custom zorst to your car then you can hardly hear it..lol. It does improve responce imo,so worth doing!!!! Good luck!!! Mark... Stuey
ta, i already got the 77mm bit, thats where k&n didnt want to help. Don Marshall [[email protected]]; on behalf of; UK.SALES [[email protected]] Hello Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately I have no way of knowing which kit was used unless you can obtain this from the writer of the link. I know you don’t manufacture one but I’m wondering if you could supply me with a model number that would have a 77mm outlet as described in the link below. http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/1,2,12,15,22,25,26,27,3/Number/305623/an/0/page/8 Thanks

Zapp
Once I've tried that kind of stuff. Results measured by G-tech (i know, I know ) were not impressive. In fact I could fell performance were little worse than with standard air box and filter. The one I was using was JR product, with destination up to 400HP, and also hand-made (alu plate) heat reflector to separate it from engine was mounted. Using termometer probe (my radar detector is equiped with one) I was able to see, that even with such shield temperature in the inlet, just inside the filter was higher by 15 to 20 degrees C. And that in my opinion is answer, why it did not work as desired. So, the crucial wll known think is to supply cold air to the cone, which in A8 with its rather hot bay engine can be difficult.
