Pincher
I'm looking for a 17" widescreen LCD tv and was wondering if the picture quality would be any good if I simply plug my Sky connection into it? It's for the bedroom so I'm not worried about analogue picture quality.
Sparky
Yes.
Chav
sky has pretty good output from the scart socket. the panasonic sky box seemed to give best picture for a non skyplus box. the s-vid output of the skyplus is excellent, but you probably wouldnt notice the difference on anything less than a 40 inch screen

Gren
Make sure you get an RGB capable Scart cable and the output will be very good.
NewNiceMrMe
Dixons have a 42" Techwood (I know, I know) LCD TV on offer at £1199.....any good at that price or just not worth a look at all?
Sparky
Out! Get out of here. Go on... and close the door behind you. Techwood??? Seriously though, sometimes these less-heard-of brands are quite good. You might suffer in terms of support if the bugger dies on you mind. Chav
many of the crappy cheap brands use the same components as in the more expensive brands. if you're not a brand snob, check the picture out in store by asking for a dvd to be played etc... eg the matrix (loads of dark scenes in it...crap displays have trouble with lots of dark colours as their contrast is crap and everything blurs into grays) sometimes the less heard of brands are actually better than some of the premium ones. NewNiceMrMe
I just wondered. I couldn't have bought it for fear of regret very soon after, but it does seem incredibly cheap.
Sparky
Well like I said, some cheap deals are really worth taking. Smaller companies doesn't always mean nasty products as often they are trying harder to break into that market. Video7 produce excellent TFT monitors, but few will touch them as they've never heard of that name. As long as the warranty is good, why not? Pincher
Anyone seen a 17" widescreen for under £300? Can't find one anywhere and that is the budget I had set myself. Seen loads at £350 but i have promised myself I will be strict with myself on this one! Also needs to have a sleep timer as I am terrible for watching something, falling asleep and then getting a dig in the ribs from the wife at about 3am telling me to turn it off!! NewNiceMrMe
May well be - I didn't pay a huge amount of interest in it at the time cos' I was in a rush to get back. Probably is I suspect. As you say, price. Still can't believe it for £1199 mind you. That has to be the cheapest 42" out there.

NewNiceMrMe
Wow - thats a Plasma too, for £999. Resolution to well down mind you, but how fine can a TV picture be I guess, or rather how fine is needed. Hmm. Tiny though - bit of a reputation for tat haven't they? Certainly not a good name for PC purchases. All I have ever seen have been complaints and dodgy spec issues.

NewNiceMrMe
Oo, I've bought batches of their TFT's for work before. They've been very reliable too. Might have to look into this a bit more than.
