dubzter
very nice American R32 site. http://www.billswebspace.com/vwr32.htm Check out the strut top covers, I'm liking those a lot

Calm Chris
Very impressive, knocks the socks off most for effort, site is good, the car has obviously been a project of love and his wife's not bad! Still not sure about the air intake, big puddle and I'd imagine big problems even if there's a so called safety valve half way up. Going back to check all the videos out... Nice one Dubzter
petemate
wow!! I'm really liking both the ipod mod and the led side lights (even though it's a sore point at the moment!!) I'm not sure why he would want to get rid of the r32 treads however, I believe the alloys are classic to the r32... it just doesn't feel the same without them! Also, I'm not sure if I would got through the pain of putting an air horn in!! On whole though, really nice... the car is'n bad either!!
wrh3
Thanks guys for your comments, just wanted to offer some clarification about points you have raised: -Air intake is fantastic compliment to a car that has been chipped and had the exhaust changed to something less restrictive. Safety valve is actually part of the factory airbox, if enough water were to enter the intake the flapper at the bottom of the box would open up bringing air in by the path of least resistance (one of the reasons why I elected to keep the box). -Puddle, easy enough explanation, runoff from driving in the rain, no vital auto fluids -Air Horns....you guys know Americans can't drive (for the most part) and you have to let them know before they run you off the road... -Getting rid of the factory wheels.....actually a few reasons: 1) Too heavy, new wheels are 10 lbs lighter per corner, reducing unsprung weight is something that can be felt in both acceleration and handling. 2) I have always hated looking like everyone else. Calm Chris
Bill Nice to see you've joined TSN! Have you taken the R to a rolling road and might you have details regarding power / torque / 0-60 etc. Very interested to see what your changes all add up to. What's next ?? Or is it finished? I do understand what the air box flapper does, but say you were doing 60mph, come round a bend and hit a 200mm water trap. At those speeds and with the inlet so low I'd imagine that several gallons of high pressure (due to speed of impact between water and inlet)water would get'punched' straight up the inlet. Surely this would allow water in to the air box and then a major problem starts . Hope my previous comment regarding the swim suit was received as the complement that was intended. Happy New year and all the best.
wrh3
Thanks for the welcome chri5, sorry but not a whole lot of 4 wheel dynos around here (and no time for me) so no hard numbers yet. Subjectively, everything I have done was an improvement. No more flat spots in acceleration, car just wants to keep pulling......still might have to turbo once warranty is up. We don't have a lot of standing water from heavy rain here but I have been thinking of buying another US spec lower grille and only cutting a few of the holes out, quick to change out on rainy days. The last rain we had, I checked the airbox to see how much atomized water made it in and it was VERY minimal, my thought is that maybe the 90 degree elbow at the bottom makes it a little more difficult for the water? But, you are right, if I decided to ford a deep puddle at speed, motor would be history most likely, no plans to test the theory . Couple of mods pending: need to finish stereo system, waiting on euro VWR shocks (we didn't get the good ones you guys got over there) matched with H&R sport springs, Yarrowsport rear strut brace, steel skid plate with audi TT lower brace, new Haldex Performance controller, eventually additional guages in custom pod for oil temp/oil pressure/vaccuum/voltage......then I'll start on the Jetta GLi Happy New Years to all of you guys (from both me and my wife)

Calm Chris
You could always take the Haldex fuse out and test power on the fronts. Two wheel rolling roads are more common! Mind you, you get to drive it so you know how the improvements perform. Are R32 ownership base in the states all like you regarding mods? USA seem to have a better amount of after market kit, but then I believe you had a run of 5000 R32's when the UK ended up with only 1700 (orginal amount stated by VW) plus more. Have saved your site, but if you refresh or add more pages, please let TSN know. International community relations and all that. Take care. wrh3
Not everybody is into mods but there are a good amount of guys over here that are, check out the VW Vortex R32 Forum ....if you have looked at the other cars I own/have owned on my other pages (www.billswebspace.com) you will also know that I definitely LOVE to mod I guess at least my hobby is also something I can enjoy daily....out of the 5000 we got starting in late Feb. of this year, only about 100+ are left at dealers across the country. Rachel
Hi Bill, If it's not an impertinent question - what was the damage for the new alloy wheels (in $US)? It is the one mod I have been thinking of for my car - but haven't found any nice 18" worth changing from the standard Aristo's down here. I was looking at 19" BBS alloys. May the best of 2004 be the worst of 2005 for you and the rest of the TSN gang.

[/ QUOTE ] I was really intending to go with BBS CH wheels in 18" but they cost and weighed a little more than the OZ Superleggeras, the anthracite finish had just been discontinued and my friend at the local tire shop had one set left in the warehouse, he let me have them for $270 each.....I kind of prefer the darker color wheels on a silver car but the new silver OZ SLs look good on darker color cars. They are light and strong and while I did like the Aristos, I found when I went to the first VW meet here that my car looked just like every other silver R32 there (can't have that), it was just an added plus that the car handled, braked, and accelerated better due to the lower mass by 10 lbs per corner times x
