There are some used S8 suspensions on ebay.de right now....get the shocks and struts.....and there is one used KW set up for something like 800 euros....

Do one of those and when you do it.....change your lower control arms.

And right now a company in California is developing a front and rear sway bar for the D2 A8.....I sent him one and another guy brought in a S8 for measurements.....

Hopefully in a few months they'll be a sway bar set, that will drastically increase your performance! It's the H-Sport bar that they make for the A6.

I know a S8 and KW suspension will fit the US bound A8's from 97 and up.....I'm almost positive it will fit your car.

I think there were just some S8 springs on ebay.de, just do a search for S8 under auto and motor and you'll find what is there.....

I would then consider getting a set of new shocks/struts all the way around from the stealer or from a source where you can get factory parts....then install them....the springs won't wear out....get new shocks, it will be like a new suspension!

And change at a minimum, the lower straight control arms, your car will be awesome!

Solid advice again PW, thanks. Springs do actially loose there strength. Had an 80 sport that kepted bump-thumping. Turned out that the springs had gone weak and car was sitting way too low. Sven said that the stealers have a test for suspension too. Dont fancy nearly £100/hr for that though!

Will go back and check again on ebay. Have been back for a second search, but still found nowt. Have also email vagparts and a number of other places for quotes for shocks/springs. Obviously, if I dont need the springs, that'll be a good thing wink.gif

Thanks again, I'll let you know how I get on. Car bokked in for a service on the 15th, so gonna be short on funds me thinks! (arh Mr McC, please bend over whilst we sort out your invoice! 123576-assfeck.gif)

Been having a chat with a suspension manufacturer. We have gotten this far (any thoughts?):

[ QUOTE ]

If we had to buy an O.E. front and rear unit to make up a design to sell one or two kits it wouldn't be worth it for us. However, if you or someone from the forum sends us a psttern front and rear we would give a good discount for their assitance. The prices at the top of the attached price list explain the price structure e.g. 2.5" strut £253.00 each etc, so you can work out the price of a kit from that.

[/ QUOTE ]

My response:

[ QUOTE ]

For me it would be of no use cause of the 3-4 weeks, but someone else or yourselves might benefit. If I do change the suspension, and you want the old stuff I’ll gladly ask the Audi Stealers to leave the old stuff in the boot. But with one proviso, you want it, you come and get it or send your courier for it! If you make it from an old unit, on examination you could determine the spec’s of the oils/valves etc? Vehicle weights are readily available. I will put your last email on the forum (www.tyresmoke.net) where I am discussing the matter. I will leave your name and company details off the site unless I hear differently, as I am not sure if this could course a conflict of interest somewhere!

Sneaky have a look at getting the Bilstein shocks, and get some Apex spings to go on them.

I think you would need the BE3-2609 (front) and BE5-2616 (rear)

These shocks are from their B6 range:

The shock absorber for those drivers who prefer a sports suspension but are not particularly interested in lowering the body. Also available in special design complete with reservoir for off-road vehicles.

No risk, more fun

For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it. The theme of the discussion here is the sports suspension. The BILSTEIN B6 Sports shock absorber is the ideal solution for drivers revelling in the understatement . The wolf in sheep's clothing snarls, when necessary, but otherwise goes reliably about its work in daily traffic with no lowering of the body whatsoever.

Optimum road holding, enhanced tracking stabilisation and excellent damping force: the BILSTEIN B6 Sports is not only first choice as far as sports tuning is concerned but also in the sphere of safety.

[/ QUOTE ]

The Apex springs model number is 10-12010, they are a new product for the A8 but I know Motech have them in stock 169144-ok.gif

The Bilsteins you would have to source elsewhere try Euro Car Parts, Vag parts someone like that should do them 169144-ok.gif

Oh! Ta.

Still not sure whether to spend the gelt on this. The wife is usually driving the car as I'm at work, but come the weekend, it drives me potty, but she dont mind ROLLEY~14.GIF. Spoils a good car really so should have it done. Plus, I don’t know how it could affect the safety, goes around corners a treat but that jiggerly ride....

Wanted to buy an early Honda Fireblade too (a '92 black one if anyone out there etc wink.gif ), new suspension and my daughters birthday party (£1k EEK2.GIF), not to mention the car service on the 15th is gonna leave me well 123576-assfeck.gif

Alan at VAG.Parts has been advising me with regard the suspension on our 8. He said to check coloured paint markings on the coilsprings.

From an earlier email:

[ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the enquiry about the shocks and springs, we can supply uprated Audi springs and dampers as I don’t think the S8 one will fit as this is a Quattro and your car is two wheel drive, the springs would lower your car by approximately 20mm. The springs are £297.77 a set, Dampers would be £437.40 a set of four the above prices are plus vat and delivery

[/ QUOTE ] He says the parts quoted are for OE.

Just happens that the guy with the other A8 up the road had the RAC out this evening. Never one to miss an opportunity, I got the patrolman to check the paint codes on the springs (for a tenner). Nothing could be seen on the front, but he said there were 3 pinky coloured markings on the rear spring (could have been 3 violet marks, was torch light). I said that there should be different colours, but he is sure that they were all the same. The shocks are definitely blue, but Alan thinks the OE were black or orangey/brown. Any-o-you-guys got a torch? (a flashlite if you're in the USA grin.gif)

hmmmm that dont sound right to me, not being funny but why would a 3.7 have self levelling suspension especially rear only? This is going to have been a high cost option when new I would think.

PM me some details and I'll see what I can find out.

Year, Chassis Number, engine code, gearbox code and final drive code too if you know it 169144-ok.gif

Things are looking like not only will I not have enough left to buy myself that old Fireblade I've been looking for or the springs and shocks, but I might have to sell one of my children too! crazy.gif At least that will save on the birthday pay funds wink.gif
