salty brakes

Did a 3 hour motorway drive on new years pm. As the roads were fairly quiet and was taking it easy I didnt hardly touch the brake pedal for the whole journey. When i was nearly home applied the brakes at the first roundabout and a strange spongy feeling and not alot of stopping EEK2.GIF Tried the brakes a few more times and got same thing. Thinking that a trip to the dreaded stealers would be on the cards, decided to check the manual. There is a small part in there about driving on salty roads and the effect it has on your brakes. Basically if you dont use your brakes for a while on very salty roads then the salt builds up on your disks and they will not perform properly suicide.gif You then have to 'burn' the salt off before they are up to full stopping power crazy.gif In all the time I have been driving Ive never heard or read this before and there it is in the VW manual znaika.gif Anybody had this happen on there cars?

Yep tis true.

When you're on the motorway and it's raining or salty roads, doing mega miles between using brakes, it's best advised to apply the brakes once in a while (lightly will do).

That way you won't find yourself bumming the car infront when you REALLY do need to stop!

(This trait is something I've noticed on all the cars I've owned)
